Teaming With Wreckage

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

The only thing I know about sports is that hitting the man in black over the head with a rock is NOT very sportsmanlike. Still, even *I* can see something's off with these sports team cakes.

I mean, c'mon, who takes a lovely sunburned R.O.U.S. like this:

...and turns it into Disney's Mushu, twisted up like a pretzel?

P.S. For you non-Disney folk, this is Mushu:

This next one is much better, though:

Bwahahaha!!

Yes, I lied. Get used to disappointment.

How about a simple star?

Think it'll work?

Correct answer: "It would take a miracle."

At this point it's just morbid curiosity keeping you going, isn't it? [nodding] Yeah. I'm right there with ya.

[blinking] Hoo boy. Anyone else have a bad feeling about this?

Oh. Well, I guess it could be worse..

It's worse, it's worse!

Hey, you know those videos online where you see the freight train headed for the tanker truck full of gasoline, and part of you is cringing and thinking what a horrible tragedy is about to occur, and the other part is all, "Oh man, this is gonna be GOOD!"

Well, allow me to introduce a tanker truck full of gasoline:

Now, heeeere comes the freight traaaaaiiiin!! (Choo choo!)

KERBLOOOIEEE!!!

Thanks to today's Wreckporters Steve R., Rebecca W., Tug T., Valerie, & Stephanie, who would never get involved in a land war in Asia.

To be fair, it now occurs to me that the original Broncos logo looks like a thestral, too.

Trevor said...

Ah, so many Princess Bride references, I love it. But, um what is that THING in the last wreck doing? Trying to cover it's privates because it's embarrassed? Well, it should be, shouldn't it?

Katalina said...

Ah, the Princess Bride quotes. They make me smile. :)

Keeley said...

A blue frog?? A BLUE frog?? A blue FROG?? Nope, I see no resemblance whatsoever to the logo. Are you sure that tanker truck wasn't full of radioactive materials that transformed the logo on impact? That's the explanation that works for me.

Let Them Eat Cake said...

Congratulations! Today you made me spit on my keyboard. That Broncos cake... Loved the train wreck too. Kudos to an artist such as yourself.

Anonymous said...

Loved the Princess Bride references! Now I'm going to go have to watch that movie...again...for the 3 millionth time.

Keeley said...

Oh, and I'm sure everyone will say this, but I loved the Princess Bride quotes.

WV: auteduck--when you see the train coming, you auteduck.

Fluffy Cow said...

Can't stop giggling... perhaps I can comment later.

Chuck, Michelle, Abby, and Caleb said...

Ahhh...The day could end now and I would be happy because someone quoted "The PRincess Bride." Now, if only they weren't highlighting such hideous cakes, it would be perfect. I guess we can't always get want...if only we had a wheelbarrow and a holocaust cloak, now that would be something.

KEI said...

These wrecks definitely fall in the category of 'classic blunders'...thanks for the Princess Bride references!

tina said...

As for the last one does Miss Piggy know that Grover and Kermit have alove child?

Stella said...

all I did was laugh.

Anonymous said...

A Razorback isn't a rodent...it's a pig.

Punk said...

I know others have said it and will say it, but I can't resist, given today's theme:

"Dear God, what is that THING?!"

Hehe. Awesome.

Abys said...

I must concur with the 9:34 Anon- the Broncos logo does look a bit like a spectacularly colored thestral.

Given how the team has been performing this season (from what I hear) the harrowed deathly mutation on the cake is probably just what the orange and blue thestral should currently look like.

Anonymous said...

A Razorback is not a ROUS, but that cake might be because it is most definitely not a Razorback...

RoseAnn said...

Now I have another entry for our holiday movie marathon!

Christian Johnson said...

Uh, ma'am? Ma'am?

I said "Horned Toads."

That's "HornED Toads." That's right.

Now, would you please move the toad's hands?

Amanda Mac said...

I fell out of my chair laughing at the R.O.U.S. reference - GO HOGS!

Gary said...

To understand the last wreck, it helps to know that Texas Christian University's (TCU's) mascot is the "Horn Frog," and its school colors are purple and white. A "Horn Frog" is the spiny lizard more commonly known as the "Horned Toad" or "Horny Toad," as shown in the official logo (yes, we know it's not really a frog or a toad, but that's what people call it). It used to be very common around Fort Worth, Texas, and still can be found there occasionally.

So you can see how a combination of taking the word "Frog" too literally, poor drawing ability, and a color that was hard to mix resulted in this cake. That in no way excuses it, but you can see how the wreck happened, just as you can see how the gas tanker truck got stalled on the train tracks and ...

mrs. q. said...

heh heh. Ah, the horny toads, er, horned frogs. I had no idea what that friggin' logo was supposed to be, and that's before it was rendered in frosting.

This summer during a cheap-crap-haul at our local Ocean State Job Lot, my daughter dug through a bin of Crocs. She fell in love with a purple and silver pair and wore them home before I noticed that TCU creepy frog printed on the back. I had to google it. I'm guessing their athletic teams are a big deal, but what merchandising genius is ordering toddler-size Crocs? She wore them all summer with pride, until she kicked one off a pier into the ocean. Be free, horney toad. Godspeed.

Jean Burke said...

For any of these to sell - "It would take a miracle"......thanks for the Princess Bride day. Peace....

I don't care much for sports, but The Princess Bride references were hilarious.

I just watched that with my nephew this last Saturday!

phantomessj said...

As a Denver Broncos fan, I hate to say that I almost like that particular wreck because it is a fantastic representation of my team's abysmal performance this season. They should be ashamed of themselves, but the Wreckerator should be proud of that cake. Proud, I say!

And "Princess Bride" references for the win!

BADKarma! said...

1) You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means... Aheh...

2) At least both the "Saints" wreckerators managed to spell it correctly. That's something, right? (sound of crickets chirping)...

3) Okay, then... Well... I find it interesting that both "Saints" wreckerators, appropos of precisely nothing, managed to put a stylish belt on their manglement of the fleur-de-lis.

Michelle said...

Stop it now, and I mean it!

Anybody want a peanut?

Jenn said...

I can hear each and every Wreckerator saying "As you wish," when they were asked to make these cakes!

WV: caces - how Wreckerators spell cakes.

The Boob Nazi said...

I never wanted this post to end.

Kelli said...

As a TCU alumni, now living in Denver, you hit me where it hurts this morning. My beloved Horned Frog has been massacred into that blue blob creation. And the Denver Broncos logo? Shame.

I woke my puppies up laughing. Thank you Cake Wrecks :)

Anne-Marie said...

Great post as always, Jen! When you displayed the fleur-de-lis, I expected one to be (unsuccessfully) rendered as a dreaded CCC (ptooie!). Now that would be a wreck of grand proportions.

As for the last wreck, I, too, thought it was a cross between Grover and Kermit - great minds think alike.

Amy's Cooking Adventures said...

Hahaha those are great! Tanker truck cake? INCONCEIVABLE!

The Broncos one looks like a cross between the baby alien at the end of Alien 4: Ressurection and the gremlin on the wing in the Twilight Zone movie. The last one? What the heck?

You keep saying "cake" weckerators. I do no think that word means what you think it means.

The last one is just ridonkulus. Instead of a horned toad it looks suspiciously like a playing piece from the Ants in your Pants game by Milton Bradley.

I do believe the Dallas Cowboys wreckerator is a closet trekkie. The mishapen star vaguely resembles the Star Trek logo.

As for the Denver Bronco logo...what IS that?!?

That Broncos cake looks like it's trying to withstand the machine. But of course no one can withstand the machine.

Watching them this season has been torture too for this Broncos fan. The Princess Bride quotes make it all feel better.

Miss Mindy said...

The particular quote for the Wreckerated Cowboys logo - "it would take a miracle" - is apropos for their season. You could even say that the wreckiness of the cake is in direct proportion to the team's record.

To add to the wrecks factor of the Saints' cakes, isn't it "Geaux Saints"? And, of course, TCU just left its conference - perhaps running away from that wreck?

The Broncos logo made me laugh out loud, hard. Here in Boise, with the numerous 'victories' of the Boise State Broncos this season, everywhere you go all you see is a bunch of blue and orange CRAP! It's a relief to see how awfully awesome their logo can be displayed. It looks like a murloc from World of Warcraft. LOL

And that TCU logo makes no sense...Frogs don't have claws!

I wish there would ever be some Princess Bride quotes on this blog. ;-)

#1 E for effort. Might have worked if the chosen medium were a real cake and not one of *those*. (Evidently, though, the customer was less forgiving, thus the manager's seal of 'approval'.)

#2,3,4... So much for the choice-of-medium theory.

#5 Looks like a certain character from Uncle Remus. Just sayin'.

#6 When asked to replicate a logo, isn't it a really good idea to look at the logo? If the customer, in a fit of optimism, doesn't supply an image of said logo (though to be fair, customer may have feared that the image would simply be pasted on the cake), is it not wise to do a very basic web search?

Now to the real question: What was the mental (and that word ought to be flashing) process that led to that result? "I have no idea what the TCU logo looks like (and they're not paying me to do research), so what symbolizes TCU to me? Got it! Now, 'Jenny' I get, but 'Sharor'? Oh well, whatever the customer wants..."
