New Tees!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Inspired by my Dino-Mite post, Tara Cox of Flying Penguin Artworks made me a fantastic "Cake Rex" illustration. I liked it so much that I asked her if I could share it with all of you on a t-shirt, and she graciously agreed. Check it out:

Cake Rex! shirt

This next one is the work of Maree Adams of Work at Home Designs. Maree is a hugely talented and extremely patient individual, as she's been working with me on this illustration since well before we even began offering shirts here on Wrecks:
At one time I was thinking of making this guy the site's logo. That's still up in the air for now, but in the mean time I really wanted to share Maree's work with all of you. So, naturally, I stuck it on a shirt:
Cute Carrot Jockey shirt

Like all shirts on Zazzle, you can get these in men's or kids' styles as well as the women's ones shown. You can also customize colors and even the graphic's size. Check out the other styles available in the Cake Wrecks Zazzle store here.

And as always, send me your shirt graphics! If I use them I'll link to your store or site here on the blog.

Gee I hate to have my mind in the gutter but the mohawk baby is a little... um... Fireman-esque.

Lil more phallic than even the original mohawk babies.

I LOVE the Cake Rex...now I have to decide between the "I Want Sprinkles" and this one...hummmm

The bendy carrot with the Mohawk Baby is just a bit iffy.

Now we just need a site to report t-shirt wrecks to. I have a place in mind, it's actually quite ironic. ;)

Toni Marie, I totally agree with you. And that's why I like it better.

The the young mohawk baby has a happy doodle...or he's holding it up by the reigns!

Ow.Ow.Ow. A baby bris with a string? ok. A little late since the "trimming" seemes to have already been done. But then, a "carrot" harness already? Ew.

Toni - it's not just you...

I totally love the "yee haw, ride'em mohawk-baby-on-a-carrot" design. That would be SUCH a great logo.

Jan Ross said...

Glad I'm not the first to notice that the carrot/baby graphic are a little...um...graphic.

I agree, the carrot mohawk baby looks just way too phallic. I don't think I could wear it around my kids or around town. It gives me the willies!

I absolutely love this blog...but I'm not seeing where I can follow it, am I just missing the link to add it to my followed blogs?

The baby on a carrot is 100 kinds of wrong. Please don't pick that one!

Cake Rex would be great for the more clandestine snooping...

The baby on a carrot reminds me of those old religious illustrations of incubi and succubi... -Shudder.- If you've never seen a nun riding on a flying hoohoodilly, check out Brian's Page of Antique Weirdness. It's... an experience.

No no no no. Not a phallic carrot with a mohawk baby jockey. Just...no. If it didn't curl like that, maybe.

that baby riding a carrot is seriously DISTURBING!!!!!

Katie Faye said...

Amy, isn't that the point?

Tabitha (From Single to Married) said...

very cool! Can't decide which one...

I'll just go and say it.

The Mohawk Baby cake rivals the fireman cake in "Am I the only one who thinks this thing looks like a wang?" wreckiness.

Not that it's a bad drawing. It's a very good quality drawing. But the fact that it is a nude baby riding a large phallic object, coupled with the placement of the reins and the position of the carrot... it's not very subtle.

I personally would try giving the baby a diaper, that might break the illusion that the carrot is... "attached to the baby".

Cake Rex----Just in time for Mardi Gras! Yay!

robyn said...

I agree, the carrot drawing is too phallic for my tastes-->hee< can I say that? ;)

I love all your shirts, they are so funny, It's just kind of the thought that it is an inside joke no one would get.

Then again you could be walking around town and find another wreckporter who gets it! :P

I agree, a logo like that might give readers the wrong idea of what the blog is about.

In addition to the disturbing baby, Cake Rex looks suspiciously like T-Rex of Dinosaur Comics fame.

What is the DEAL with those babies? They'd looked ever-so- vaguely familiar to me (for a while now) until I realized that they remind me of the old ( probably-before-anyone-else-on-here's-time) Kewpie dolls. Kewpies were naked, too, and had little wisps of hair on the tops of their heads. The wisps did NOT look anything like Mohawks, but maybe that general theme was mutated in Japan or China along the way.
Biggest difference between Kewpies and these stu-pies: Kewpies were magic and legendary, like elves.
The original Kewpies had tiny green wings (molded of the same hard stuff the bodies were made of, not feathers) on their shoulder blades.
The Carrot Kids are just goofy, but I do wonder now if they had their roots in Kewpieland...

I WANT THAT SHIRT AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!

Sport's Mom said...

Hey, wolfmom, why don't you just get both? I'm getting this one as well as the Carrot Riding Mohawk Baby tee.

needing.to. wash. my. eyes. out! said...

Um. How do I say this with tact?

I'm not sure, if it's the phallic carrot that made me see this, but does the baby's Mohawk look like a fresh bikini wax to anyone else??

Think I'll have to pass on this one. If the babies actually looked like Kewpie dolls like the ones on the cake did...then maybe. But not looking like some chick's nether region! Especially with how phallic the carrots look.

It's just wrong.

I really like Maree Adams' illustration style. Maybe you could get her to do a couple other designs?

Baby wang looks like he needs to be sporting some leather and a gag. Is he supposed to look.... naughty, or is the designers mind way too innocent to notice what she made?

Brie said...

Give a fireman with flesh colored errr hose and I'm in :)

Vinca Leaf Quilts said...

Yup, Maree morphed the mohawk bebee just a *little* too much.

Cake Rex though? I think I may have peed a little.

And all the carrotbaby commentary? Yup. Pass the Depends.

Well, you know what they say...? Something about Men are just kids with a little more in their pants. So much so that they have to "reign" them in?

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, but I also get the firehose wibes from that baby. It is very cute and I like the idea though! Maybe the carrot can be adjusted just a bit? I think it's the angle of the carrot and the position of the reigns that does it.

Anonymous said...

er....guys...I think the idea of the baby riding the carrot and the image is um...supposed to be a little less than cute and innocent. Isn't that the whole idea or do I not get it?

Anonymous said...

The baby with sexual imagery makes no sense at all to me. I don't get how it has anything to do with this site. (Maybe I should be glad that I don't get it.... I wonder if I might not want to "get it.")

Anyway I'd say "no go" on the male carrot baby for a logo or for this site. I don't think it's going to communicate anything useful about your blog's content or say anything about why people would want to visit your site.

Contrary to some posts here, I think the carrot jockey is awesome -- just bought a tee and an apron! Just wish the tee was available in black, but ya can't have everything ;-)

Thanks for an incredible site!

The uh..."carrot" in the tshirt logo looks really nothing like the carrots on the cake. What's with that peculiar upward bend. It looks like a big orange um...penis.

Which makes me wonder, who on earth would actually WEAR such a thing? EWW.

Jen said...

Am I the only one who did NOT see the carrot as a phallus? Seriously. I think the baby riding the carrot design looks great on a T-shirt!

I want that shirt.

Dave n Jenn said...

Too bad they're already printed... it would look better if the reins were fed through the bottom of his grasp, with the tail ends coming out the top. I train horses and design, which is why it caught my eye. One of those stupid little details people who don't ride would never notice, but those who do can't get past!

L. Shepherd said...

Yeah, that is pretty phallic.

Julia said...

Ride it baby!!

YEEEE HAAAW!!!

Lapis Kelinia said...

I love the carrot wrangler as a logo. It's hilarious and bizarre.

Cake Rex is too obviously a pun, and hey there's the misleading regent air to the word.

Katie H. said...

I much prefer the mohawk baby carrot jockey that you used on the aprons. It's not as disturbing!

I definitely think the Baby on a Carrot would be a GREAT logo - totally wierd and ambiguous and therefore hee-larious. plus, that image is such a Cake Wrecks classic!
