What's a Wreck?
What's a Wreck?
A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Where's the book?
We don’t have any copies of Cake Wrecks for sale here, autographed or otherwise. We decided the shipping and handling costs would be too high to make it worth your while. So instead, buy your copies locally or online and then order personalized bookplates: it’s cheaper, easier, and I think even looks a bit nicer.

There will be no survivors! The Dread Pirate Roberts takes no survivors. Are there any Princess Bride wrecks?
The cloak didn't belong to the Albino, it belonged to Miracle Max and he gave it to Fezzik. lol
Oh, if only it had the Stargate symbols on the side our confusion would be complete!
(nice "The More You Know" reference!)
Bahahahaa!!!! The Princess Bride reference at the end was great.
On another note, this is total sacrilege. I'm really sad now
Dang... Even I know better than to mix that stuff up.
Being born in 1975 means I love all your references!
Not to reveal myself as too much of a nerd and risk annoying you for correcting you, but the holocaust cloak came from Miracle Max's, if you're going by the movie, and the swamp where Fezzik had to find incredients for the miracle pill, if you're going by the book.
Princess Bride FTW!
Star Wars/Star Trek/Princess Bride crossover - for the WIN!
Tracy O
WV-renin - What would happen if Darth Vader had a renin with the Dred Pirate Roberts?
All I can think of when I see "the more you know" (besides the music) is the fake one Zach Braff did on Scrubs: "Don't smother your kids".
oooh love princess bride. i thought the holocaust cloak was miracle max's . . guess i need to see it again!
"knowing is half the battle!" Cool, I didn't know you were a GI Joe geek, too. Awesome!
Stop it, I meant it!
Anybody want a peanut?
I am not a huge fan of sci-fi and even I know that is just wrong!!
I assumed this was going to be a Ghostbusters post, and I got all excited. This was just as good though.
Funny stuff!
FWIW though, the holocaust cloak was Miracle Max's, not the albino's. Fezzig found it at Max's and "it fit so nice, he said I could have it."
Nooooooooo!
(wv: narings -- who let these narings decorate this cake?!)
In some places, that cake would cause a full on RIOT.
"Bye bye boys!"
"Have fun storming the Death Star!"
"Think it'll work?"
"It'll take a miracle...BYE!"
I know in my social circle this is like, a mortal sin. But we're not nerds...not at all! Although we in fact love all 3 of the referenced movies. Don't mix up the Wars and the Trek.
Boy-oh-boy! You stepped in it now, with that holocaust cloak!
Gotta love the many random references you used! Really drives home how ridiculous that cake is!
-Bakingdom's 100th Blog Post Giveaway this weekend!
I'm not a sci-fi fan, but even I know that those are Star Wars characters. Tee heee heee.
cc
Someone should be slapped for this.
And the cloak? It came from Epcot.
Is it sad or awesome that I just did the "The More You Know" song in my head?
Bwoops,
All fixed. The cloak did, in fact, come from Miracle Max's house. Totally Jen's fault.
;P
john
"Eet jurst feet so nas, 'e said ah cood 'ave eet!"
Two of my favorite things in one post - Star Wars and The Princess Bride!
Hmmmmm... maybe it was a commentary of how much Trek rocks over Star Wars? You know, relegating SW to the side of the cake. Because if that's the Annoying Anakin figure, I'm with the wrecker.
The title makes me smile.
The cake just hurts my heart.
Ah the days when my now 25 year old son wanted to be Wesley (at age 3 or 4)and our neighbor's 3 year old daughter wanted to be a giant rat...The Princess Bride never loses it's magic!
Now THIS is far more offensive than anything posted in the past few days!
Is it possible the cake recipient just happened to like both? No? No? Why can't I have my Roddenberry and Lucas it too?!
No more rhyming now, I mean it!
Anybody want a peanut?
BAWHAHAHAHA! Love it!
Oh I had all of my non-geek co workers playing light sabers today with burned out florescent tubes after looking at CW's for the better part of the morning! Good Friday!
True story:
One day, on another cake website, a decorator was lookiing for ideas for a cake. IT was to be Star Wars themed birthday. She wanted to write "Star Date" and the birthday on it. I quickly jumped in with "No, no. One is Star Trek and one is Star Wars! Don't cross teh streams!"
Thankfully, there was someone on the website who actually GOT the Ghost Busters reference. That said, I heartily applaud your post today!
Ok how are people missing that there are FOUR referenced movies? Work it out folks.
This is a popular mashup, isn't it? I seem to recall another similar wreck posted last year. Love the movie mashups references in the post!
I don't really watch sci-fi movies, but I can practically quote every line of The Princess Bride, and even I recognize the very horror being committed by this travesty of a cake.
WV: thflik - Mthinks thgot thflik wrong.
Oh man! As a sci fi geek I am appalled at this cake! (And geeking out over The Princess Bride comment)
You are the only person I know who can combine references to GI Joe and Princess Bride and actually pull it off.
Can I use a lightsaber on that cake decorator?
OMG!! Jen, only you could manage to mash up Star Trek, Star Wars, Princess Bride, Ghostbusters AND GIJoe!!! AMAZING!!!! I am in total awe of your writing skills!!
That cake, however, is just blasphemy!! You don't ever, EVER mix Star Trek with Star Wars! Good GRIEF!! If they love 'em both, use two separate cakes, people! TWO SEPARATE CAKES!! DO NOT CROSS THE STREAMS!!!! AUGH!!!
WV: "untso" -- Oh, say it untso!!

*FLASH*
Man in Black: These are not the wrecks you're looking for. Anybody who says different is selling something.
WV: beneds -- I have the flu, taking beneds, at work, double shots, slightly hallucinatory ...
OMG that's totally something my friend would do and something I would have a heart attack over! Maybe it was made by the guy who showed up for the star wars convention in star trek costume! :)
LOL, love the movie references!
Perhaps the wreckerator was going for a total protonic reversal effect?
That would be bad.
Or perhaps they think by crossing the streams that they are saving the world by reversing the particle flow in the bakery?
That still would be bad.
Poor Jen & John. The cloak did belong to Miracle Max and the wheelbarrow belonged to the albino. Admit it, you're just lookin' for an excuse to watch the movie again, ain't cha? ;-D
Unfortunately for some, wreckerators can't make a cake "as you wish". It's inconceivable!
wv: diate: Diate some cake and it tasted good.
This post is relevant to my interests. :D
And yes, it is MUCH more offensive than any of the cake wrecks featured during the past week.
I like Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, and Princess Bride, but G.I. Joe is just meh (sorry).
msyendor, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your verson of the Ghostbuster theme song.
Captcha: prheez
Next time you get a benadryl-fueled inspiration *prheez* make sure you share it with us!
I love how you manage to get so many different movies referenced in a one-cakewreck post.
*giggle* *snort*
I also have a hard time figuring out how anyone can confuse Wars and Trek. Guess I'm geekier than I thought.
Bring on the tribbles; I need some lovin' after that cake.
~~Di
Man, now I want a Princess Bride themed cake for my birthday this year.
Is this wrong? (I'm 40-something)
GI Joe is "Knowing is half the battle." The More You Know is, what?, ABC, CBS, NBC feigning concern about the public good.
I love the mash-up! Especially the Ghostbusters bit. Bravo to the few who noticed the "cross the streams" part. I feel I must add:
-"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Nice icing, wrecks!"
-"That's the one. That's the wreckerator that got me."
-"Back off, man. I'm a wreckerator."
And, without alteration.
-"Tell him about the Twinkie."
THAT'S IT CAKE WRECKS!! I'M DONE...
laughing my @$$ off!!
I've gone and joined the dark side of the final frontier!
Mebbe that cake should disappear?
(See the PB reference with the rhyme!? And the SW.. and ST??? right? RIGHT!??? HAHAHAH!@!!)
[ahem]
WV: expus - Whayn ju tayk awf de clowck (cloak) ju be expus!
I love this post! We talk in scifi movie-speak all the time at home and I love it when we quote more than one movie and it makes sense - to us anyway!!! Love Cake Wrecks!!!
I am utterly offended by this post. Jen - you are no longer funny. I am no longer a fan and will no longer read your blogs or buy your books. Oh, and your yellow boots are ugly.
NOT!
(Just thought I'd throw in my own 80s pop culture reference.)
Y'know I love ya!
*sigh* Now I miss "Sci-Fi Friday" and the guy who used to float around the tv screen.
That cake needs to be slimed, sliced up by a light saber and served to the Borg. Missed the GI Joe reference (saw the movie and was disappointed). I just may be watching the Princess Bride and Ghostbusters this weekend.
But I LOVE cake mash ups! It's such a challenge to see how many you can use and actually make sense. For my son's 7th birthday next week, I'm going to make a cave cake with a Horta and some Power Miners Legos. How can this POSSIBLY be wrong???
My boyfriend would get me this cake just to see me steam. I keep explaining to him that his obsessive knowledge of sports trivia and sport movie trivia is just as nerdy (geeky) as my love of the Science crossed with the Fiction but to no avail.
Can't breathe *Hssss* strep throat *hssss*
The Bad Thing happened. Curse you Jon Keymaster and Jen Gatekeeper!

The Dread Ensign Wesley
You're welcome to shoot me now.
Cross streams? I saw the title and got all excited for a Ghostbusters cake! Apparently, I'm not the only one... but as long as we're mixing sci-fi references...
<3 love the princess bride :)
I did once make a Stargate cake with Star Wars action figures... but it was an intentional crossover. and was an awesome combination, unlike this.....
OutSTANDING! I now want to make this cake for the birthdays of every uber-geek I know, just to watch them hyperventilate!
And your mash-up of pop-culture references in the original post, just makes the whole thing that much more enjoyable, so thanks for making my day!
"As a duly designated representative of the United Federation of Planets, The Rebel Alliance and State of New York, I hereby order you to return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest parallel Fire Swamp dimension."
Holy carp!!
chaitea said "The Dread Ensign Wesley" and I peed in my pants!!
I remember with fondness the t-shirt "coming next episode: Wesley gets beamed into a black hole"
I feel so at one with the Universe when I read this blog (except Sundays- never read Sundays- those posts are just creepy).
-Barbara Anne
lol, im a new fan to star trek and totally clueless about star wars.. but even i knew this was wrong
Oooh boy. Unless the person that got this cake loves both Trek and Star Wars I bet there was a tantrum thrown lol. Maybe the wreckerator couldn't remember the order and figured both would be a good idea just in case.
just. not. right.
I've never seen star wars or star trek and even I know that's completely wrong.
I assume that cake was for JJ Abrams. If you're an old school trekkie, you'll know what I mean. [sigh]
John, your Death Star comment is the best and inspiring. Here's a few of my lame attempts:
Life is pain, Highness! Anyone who says differently is selling a wrecked cake.
Do you hear that Fezzik? That is the sound of ultimate suffering. My heart made that sound when the six-fingered man decorated a cake and didn't know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek.
There's a shortage of perfect cakes in this world. It would be a pity to wreck yours.
WV: sychawas. I haven't been to Disneyland sychawas seven.
This made my day. Thank you!
If I may add my own Ghostbusters geekiness:
Gozer: Are you a WRECKERATOR?
(Pause. Stantz looks over at Venkman, then looks back at Gozer.)
Stantz: No.
Gozer: Then, DIE!
(No, that wouldn't be good. Then Cake Wrecks would be out of work!)
I ordered a cake from a bakery for the specific reason that they could take digital photos and print them onto cakes with edible ink - I SWEAR this was NOT my idea, I just got manipulated into ordering the thing because the fool throwing the party didn't know how to send photos. The whole concept seemed unappetizing and toxic to me!
