A Floridian's Fall Trip

Monday, October 4, 2010

[running in] YOU GUYS! Did you know it's FALL?!?

Seriously! Fall! Already!

I think I just pooped a pumpkin!

At least I'm not the only one.

So, now that I know it's officially "Fall," I think I'll kick off my flip-flops, crank the air down to 78 (which may take a while, since it's [checking temperature] ooh, down to 92!), and then find some great Fall cakes to get me in the spirit of the season.

Let's see...[rifling through e-mail]...aha! Here we go:

Uh, perhaps we're "going" a bit too literally. (On a steeeck!)

Well, thank goodness for big plastic leaves, at least:

I mean, just try to imagine this pair without them. [shudder]

And what says "Fall" better than a bunch of plastic leaves?

A bunch of plastic leaves with the WORD "Fall," that's what. (Word.)
I like how the Wreckerator impaled all the leaves Ninja-style into the icing, too. It really says, "Psst. Hey. Are these leaves dead... or deadly?"

Well, one thing's for sure: when the Pod People come, this will make them think twice before going after the Wreckerators.

You know, an optimist would say these scarecrows are half icing, half plastic:

...a pessimist would say they're just half-a$$ed.

It's a swirl! It's a flame! It's...

GLITTER SWIRLY SPRINKLE FALL CAKE! (With leaf.)

So in closing...

...Happ Fall Ya'll

Anony M., Michelle G., Peche, Claire, Steven W., Lora, Jen L., & Lindsey & Chris B., I love that cake. No Y?
Trevor said...

Oh Jen, these are WAAY too funny. The first one, the CCC (ptoie), was a great way to start, and the cakes and commentary just got better. The one with the pod person comment(I wasn't counting pics): I got to that one and literally was like "WTH is that supposed to be?" Maybe IT was created by the pod people to throw us off? Regardless, these are priceless.

Cher said...

Why oh WHY is that second cake labeled as a rotisserie chicken?

Melissa said...

I think the funniest part of the stick cake is the tag on it saying it's a rotisserie chicken :-)

Courtney said...

It's "y'all," so that cake actually has two misspellings. If that one came from anywhere in the south, the Wreckerator should be ashamed! ;)

I think the pumpkin pooping scarecrow might be one of my favorite wrecks ever.

What a great post for a nice, cool (49 degrees!) morning. Love the pumpkin pooping scarecrow!!
Have you seen Ziggy this morning? Apparently, there are wreckerators in his world, too... http://www.gocomics.com/ziggy/2010/10/04/

Ya'll "have" a happ day!

WV: faliqu - I faliqu to understand why someone thought that cake with s*** on a stick was a rotisserie chicken.

Kudos on the Jeff Dunham (jefffa dun HAM dot com) and Jose Jalepenjo on a Steeeek reference!

Not even gonna touch (pardon the pun) the regularity which comes with fall....*wink wink nudge nudge*

Sherri said...

I avoid the bakery section now.

However, I do recall quite clearly waiting for the first hint of fall in Florida. I remember it as a kid (the world didn't seem as hot and sticky then, and temps seemed to drop by mid-September, but that may be nostalgia temperature control working). Have the azaleas started their confused blooming yet?

Linda said...

I like that the second cake has a label that reads "why cook tonight" **Deli Rotisserie Chicken**

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the "ya'll" cake was probably designed by a damn Yankee. It's y'all. What I love more than anything is people who aren't from the south trying to use y'all in a sentence. I heard a girl just replace like every pronoun with y'all. It was great... but not as great as that cake.

Del said...

My three year old was horrified by these wrecks. "What did they DO to that scarecrow?" I tried to explain, but I was laughing too hard.

My word verification is 'tricak.'

Just for perspective on the temperature, I scraped ice off my windshield this morning.

I like the clouds the best on the "fall" cake.

LOVE Jose Jalapeno on a Steeeek!

And the pumpkin-pooping scarecrow is gonna stick with me all day, I just know it. I'll be walking down the hall giggling like an idiot...

Anonymous said...

I like the one that says on the label "Why Cook tonight? Buy a rotisserie chicken! " After that amazing cake I think I'll pass

ania said...

So funny.

About the Rotisserie Chicken label: Maybe that's a poorly planned add-on sale ploy? Like, "Hey, this "bakery" is in close proximity to the "deli". Where you can buy a "rotisserie 'chicken'". Because, you don't really feel like cooking a meal to go with this "cake", do you? I mean, the the "decoration" that you see is a fairly good indication of the "taste", and would ruin your home-cooked efforts. Unless you are a mediocre cook - in which case this "cake" may make your meal rise in the estimation of your family...."

jo said...

Um, did anyone notice the cattail (is this fall?) or poop on a stick is labeled "rotisserie chicken"? so is that a joke? are we supposed to imagine that's a drumstick? even though fall is for Turkey?

meanwhile, that scarecrow on the left (on the cookie) is cute! his cousin's a little malformed....

Happy Fall, y'all! (love the southern rhyme. but do y'all have colored leaves in the fall down south?)

Michelle said...

I have to give it to the "acorn" decorator. They may be not be able to decorate cupcakes, but they know that acorns come from oak trees! On second thought, I wonder how they are smart enough to know that but not smart enough to know that they shouldn't be a cake decorator! maybe they wreckorator just got lucky!

john said...

I have to assume #2 is cattails, and not, um, #2. In fall, though, they've already exploded into dirty-looking fluff, and may be just bare sticks. Wow, I hope no Wreckerators read this blog for ideas.

mimi said...

Weirdest looking rotisserie chicken I've ever seen.

What are cakes #2 and #3 supposed to be? Wheat stalks and ???

On a STEEEEEKKK!!! :) Ever seen that live?? Awesome stuff.

GLITTER SWIRLY SPRINKLE FALL CAKE? No, it's an incredibly rare Jackson Pollock and worth millions!

We have autumn here in the UK, so 'fall' looks like an instruction - perhaps in response to the hideous pumpkin pooping scarecrow.

Brown swirly fondant on cupcakes - yummy - is the baker expressing his repression at being toilet trained too early?

LaurenH said...

ha ha ha! No really, what is the fetus-cake SUPPOSED to be...?

Anonymous said...

I love that the second one (with the cattails, I think?) is labeled a rotisserie chicken. It's probably an advertisement, but still, so funny. "Look, Mom! This counts as dinner! It says right here it's chicken!"

Wait, fall weather is 78 degrees?! Dang! I want to live where you live! Here in Montana, 78 is summer weather, 45 degrees is fall. I think I need to visit Florida for the next 6 months or so. :)

#1 Without the 'pumpkin', he's just a scarecrow with incredibly strong arms -- and a CCC (patooie!). $16.99? Right.

#2 Cattails, must think cattails. I like the clever deli ad. "Why cook tonight?" A better question: why eat tonight.

#3 Some leaf bags are dark brown. Others are dark green. Would that have been better? It's a toss-up, which is probably not the right word to use just now...

#4 "You show promise, Grasshopper."

#5 What the wreck is under the sticker? That's a rhetorical question.

#6 At least it's not 'bettercreme'.

#7 When executing design #324 from the catalog, be sure to leave enough time before bolting out the door at end of shift to add the 'y' and put the apostrophe ("hey, at least there is one!") in the right place. Thank you, the Management.

I think the supposed "acorn" cake is, is fact, proof positive that bears do indeed shit in the woods.

Probably having something to do with going into hibernation....

I live in the land of Florida snowbirds... (NYS), but have always heard of Arizona being the Montana snowbirds.

If you don't like your state, move, but don't be surprised at finding some other reason to wish you were 'back home'.

I'm thinking those leaves are one of the reasons. To leave. Or was it the piles of #2? Best left.

Those are supposed to be ACORNS????

Egads, the things I learn when I come back in to read the jetsam left on the blog.

And for the love of gravy, cut out all that mocking of Florida's "Autumn" weather! lol We already know it's hot enough *without* the sarcasm, thankyouverylitte. Now, off to make some pumpkin pies to RE-convince myself that fall has indeed hit the sunshine state...and nobody can tell me otherwise, ya hear!? ;)

Thanks for the awesome laughs! It really does get me in the mood for fall, no matter how un-fallish it is outside.

Laughed hysterically at these and even more at the comments. Thanks ya'll for putting some much needed happ in my day!

So the first one wasn't THAT bad for a cupcake cake. I mean yeah that pumpkin could of used some different placement. The second cake is apparently a rotisserie chicken! Hilarious post either way, looooveee it!

Aliza said...

I'm glad the wreckerators didn't try to spell autumn! On the other hand, seeing them attempt that would be highly amusing (and, simultaneously, depressing)

Loved the post, as usual... you were in fine form today

PS That was just cruel, telling us it was 92F (ah, that's 33C - nice!). I wouldn't've commented, but for the fact that we've warmed up to a measly 14C today (57F) after a horrifyingly low low of +1C(35F). Most people I know are heating already . We *do* have gorgeous fall foliage though!

WV: watedat. As in, watedat thing labelled as a rotisserie chicken???

Elizabeth C. said...

It's mid-50s here today. It was mid-90s two weeks ago. Welcome to Southern Illinois - If you don't like the weather, wait a few hours. :)
(And by Southern I don't mean anywhere near Chicago... or Springfield. Those are both way north. I mean "the neighboring county is in Kentucky" Southern Illinois.)

I also noticed the chicken ad. and wondered.

And did NOT get that those were acorns. I see acorns a LOT (Oak tree in the back yard!) I clean them off of my car a LOT. That is NOT what they look like.

Is the pod people cake supposed to be pumpkins?

WV: Decro - Short for "decroating" classes. They are to Decorating what bettercreme is to butter-cream.

aww the scarecrows in the second scarecrow cake might have been kind of cute without the legs!
well come to think of it that would still be frightening..
maybe with different legs?

Oh dear. After the pooped pumpkin, the rotisserie chicken, and the acorns, my mind just got into a groove. So when the squashed pumpkin cookie cake showed up, I spent 5 whole minutes wondering what you had to eat (and in what quantity) to produce orange and green poop. I may be skipping dessert for a while.

Cher & Melissa beat me to my comment. I also noticed the second cake being labeled as rotisserie chicken. Is THAT what those things on the sticks are? ;)

msyendor said...

Oo. It's election time, and already our straw man has dropped a pumpkin.

Kimberly Chapman said...

What really gets me is how expensive these cakes are compared to grabbing a box mix, throwing that together, and squirting icing haphazardly all over it.

I mean sure, I get paying thousands of dollars for a Mike McCarey cake (pardon me while I have a little fangirl squee over here for a second...*squeee*), because then you're paying for art, for an experience, for a status symbol, for so much more.

But seriously, wtf is wrong with people even willing to pay $14.99 for something that looks like an icing bag barfed on it? And the people who will pay for that are the very ones who complain about the high cost of a truly artistic cake!

nanner18411 said...

The tag on cake #2 (Poop Reeds is what it looks like to me!) says "Why cook tonight, Rotisserie Chicken" I loooooove the rotisserie chicken cakes!

Craig said...

Mice! I skipped #6 -- guess I blocked it because I couldn't deal with the anatomical questions posed by the scarecrow on the right.

What are the tall yellow things supposed to be -- flames? No wonder scarecrow #2 went weak in the knees. Or the thighs, as the case may be. Maybe the flying monkeys got to him. Yeah, that's it.

wv: howwor. Oh, the howwor of it all!

Michelle said...

I think the "fetus" cake is supposed to be tomatoes...?

As for Florida fall, the temps today dropped to the low 80's and it feels wonderful!

Katie said...

What the heck is that "rotisserie chicken" cake supposed to be? Cattails? Rather disembodied from the plant? Drumsticks hence the "chicken" label? I just don't get it!!!

tiny purple elephant said...

it's sure fall here....quite chilly this morning, my heat is ON.
i cant believe these are considered professional cakes

Doctor Tarr said...

The approval delay sure leads to a lot of repetition. But in a good way.

I agree that the "rotisserie chicken" on the cattail (SOS) cake is probably an ad. It's all from the deli section of the grocery store. Or maybe they just punched in the wrong code when they were printing it.

At first I thought the cattails were corn dogs. Poop on a stick didn't occur to me until I read the caption.

Anonymous said...

Pod People??? I thought they were kidneys. Why 5 kidneys? Is it time for kidney stew???
