Wreckage in its Proper Form
Thursday, June 3, 2010
No, I mean really, REALLY important.
As in, fill in every blank, or suffer the consequences:
And for goodness' sake, don't get all fancy and try to use shorthand to save time:
Whatever happens, though, you can take comfort in knowing that every order is personally inspected and signed off on by a supervisor:
Elizabeth, Monica, & Steve P., now you know. And according to the shirt I'm wearing today, knowing is half the battle. (The other half is LASERS.)

What's a Wreck?
What's a Wreck?
A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Where's the book?
We don’t have any copies of Cake Wrecks for sale here, autographed or otherwise. We decided the shipping and handling costs would be too high to make it worth your while. So instead, buy your copies locally or online and then order personalized bookplates: it’s cheaper, easier, and I think even looks a bit nicer.

OMG! Too Funny! I think I may really need that lasers T-Shirt too!
Yikes.
I thought maybe that last one was "We love you." and then "OK Bye" like my little cousin always says.
Either way, what are these people thinking??
It looks like the first cake is iced in spackle.
Is it just me, or does it look like the "OK by" was added in later? The cake makes sense if the bottom says "We Love You Patricia." It looks like someone else may have come in with the "OK by" later, since the Patricia is centered properly without that text, and the handwriting of the "OK by" looks slightly different than the rest of the text, including the name Patricia. Maybe I am reading too much into it...
And why are the balloon strings a mass of knots? aieeee!
Perhaps the 2nd cake was ordered by some1 who spends way 2 much time texting, IMHO, LOL, ROFLAO.
(Okay, I am way too uncool to pull that off. My cell phone makes phone calls only ... dork.)
wv: hackybac
The appropriate term for a hack who operates a bakery.
Same old joke (people writing random stuff from the order form onto the cakes), but it never, never gets old.
Especially if you've worked at a place where people were that bad at following instructions. And who hasn't worked there?
Classic wreckification. Well Done to _______.
WV: achne - the scourge of the German teenager
(Grand, Mom) goes right along with "God, Mother!" from the other day.
I bet mimi and Mike above are onto something with the "Okay, bye" theory for the last one. I'm more concerned to know why it's piped onto wet cement. And don't those shiny frosting balloons look appetizing? Especially the chartreuse ones. Mmm, mmm.
Yo Joe ! Loved that cartoon back in the day- thanks for a good laugh.

Can you do some lawyer cakes? I am studying for the bar and come to this site every day for some little tiny happiness. It's so great that you post more than once a week. Thanks! Katie
I agree: these never get old.
Re: your recent tweaking: I noticed today that for this Firefox user on a PC (with #@%^# Windows Vista) the "Cake Wrecks" logo is completely on top of the Home / FAQ / Press / Stuff / Contact line, and the very bottom edge of "When Professional Cakes Go Horribly, Hilariously Wrong" and the very top part of today's post title are overlapping. Maybe it's time to break out the lasers...
LOL those are great!
Maybe Eva's in Vegas at the altar and they don't know who she's going to be with so at the time they ordered the cake they couldn't fill in the blank yet to fully Congratulate her & _______.
wv: smudolti. An Italian curse word to describe phallic confections.
wv: (2nd try): tings. What are these tings? What the Italian says before he calls them smudolti.
2 Text cake
"OK By Patricia" is the new "Under Neat that"
@ Mike. Maybe you're onto something. Maybe this is an apology cake and the cake givers are trying to tell Patricia that they love her. Maybe they were even afraid to give it to her so they left it for her to see, then she inscribed "Ok by" to make it seem like she accepted their apology.
Last one is an LOL for me. Love this post.
Who hired the automatons who filled these orders? I think these decorators would make better autopilots.
I think the "OK by Patricia" was somebody signing off on the information that it was correct. And then the wreckerator just put the whole thing in.
Sigh.....
WOW those are just... well they are just way to predictable in our ever growing less educated society.
This is what comes of lowering standards.
Funny cakes - from ignorance.
I get cake orders from time to time at work that look like the second cake. "H 80 b Gma Ruth" One of the bakers refuses to write on cakes because she can't figure out what the order actually says.
oh Jen, the literal LOLs are some of my favorites. I'm sure the bakeries just beat it into their employees that whatever is on the card goes on the cake...too bad they don't mention that to customers. Why don't the forms have a "notes" section for things like "green icing please" or "ok by Patricia" or "image for cake on attached USB drive"???!?!
But then I guess we wouldn't have near so much fun with the results. ;-)
thanks Jen and John!
Tee Hee! Funny as always, thanx!!
Too weird lol, but very funny

The W was going to be the b in by from the next line.
Another funny guys! I am posting too about the layout weirdness I am seeing in Firefox today. I took a screenshot in case it helps!

Just to let you know the top of the site is messed up for me...it's kind of over-lapping.
perhaps "Grand, Mom" is a psychotic math genius who's gone a bit batty in her old age.
just look at it...
H to the power of 85th, multiplied by the sum of Grand, Mom.
anyone?
*tap tap* is this thing on?
Heh. My parents used to get me a gag cake for my birthday, and every year it said "Happy Anniversary, Bob and Flo!" We had to switch bakers one year, and they helpfully corrected it for us. "Happy Anniversary. Ebb and Flow."
H to the 85th power, man!
The notation seems like a euphemism for a special kind of hell.
I work for a photography studio that, among other things, photographs sports teams. We give the coaches the option of whatever caption they want.
The problem there isn't the coaches; it's the photographers. Despite the handy and clear form on the back of the set envelope, we get back many with either the line blank or with "STD" for "standard" which in turn is short for [school] [sport] [level] [year]. I told them, time and time again, that when the blank said "exactly" that's what I meant.
If I hadn't gone to part-time, I WOULD have started putting the caption as "STD". And possibly stapling it to the photographers' foreheads.
'3E Love Yau'
I'm never buying a professional cake again.

P.S. this is my first comment, your website ROCKS!
Haha! Love your t-shirt! :)
Hey, Friday is National Doughnut Day. Are there any doughnut cakes? :)
Something isn't write with the formatting screw-up. I'm using Firefox with Vista, and that's not how mine looks at all.
Hmm that first cake.. either they are lazy or just don't want to attempt to spell congratulations lol. Poor Eva I wonder if it was an engagement cake and no one knew who the fiance was going to be until the day of the party. That second cake I would sue the bakery. What a horrid cake.
That 'Professional' in your by-line refers only to the fact that these people charge money for their work, right?
That is funny!!All are nice!
I honestly don't get the second one... WHAT?!
