Rockin' Wrectators

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Today's readers all qualify for Evil Wrecky Henchpersons of the Month. Check it out:

First up, my apologies to Steph H. for not posting her awesomely hilarious Halloween costume sooner:

As you can see, Steph here is decked out in the ultimate CW homage costume! (Plus she matches the couch - so, you know, bonus points there.)

The back:
And the shoes!

Steph even started her own CW-inspired site called Tomb Wrecks. Now that's the level of devotion I expect from you Wreckies. Excellent work, Steph!

Next up, Manda K. has gone a little carrot jockey crazy:

...and I approve.

Oh, and for you non-tweeting types who missed it, here's David & his jockey tie causing some familial consternation:

Love it.

Many of you send in your intentional Wrecks - some homemade, some ordered, all hilarious. Here are a few of my recent favs:

Shauna W. did her own version of Cannibal Cake (aka Cakey):

Trish invented a mom version of "Happy Falker Satherhood" for her friend Nicole's baby shower:

"Happy Motnicovicterhood!"
Nice touch with the improper spacing, too.

This was the groom's cake at Carrie D.'s wedding, made by her friend and fellow Wreckie Sara T.:
(Check back tomorrow for the wedding cake - it's as pretty as this is Wrecky. Heh.)

And Max of Freed's Bakery sent me this hilarious homage specially requested by one of their customers:

I love these combo Wrecks. Can you spot them all? Don't miss the open book with "The End" behind the baby. (Don't remember that one? It's in the book.)

And finally, some of you may remember Breanna K., who won Best in Show at the AZ cake show last year while wearing a CW shirt. Well, Breanna's back, and she won again! This time, she wore a different CW shirt, too:

This cake took 1st in semi-pro, people's choice, and decorators' choice. Be sure to check out Breanna's Cakes for more of her award-winning work!

Breanna, I think I speak for us all when I say it's a crying shame you haven't started your own cake business yet. Wowza.

And to the rest of you: rest assured I read and enjoy your every e-mail, but there are simply too many for me to post all of your pics. Therefore only the most creative/amazing/funny stuff will get on the blog.

And yes, that IS a challenge. ;)

Even Jesus looks concerned about that tie!

Look! It's me and my carrot jockey sumo wrestler christmas cookie! What a great Saturday morning surprise! I'm glad you found my email so amazing/creative and or funny!

I love how Jesus is looking disapprovingly at David and his jockey tie.

Jules AF said...

Oh my gosh. Those shoes! I couldn't even concentrate on the rest of the post after seeing them.

Wrecky Henchpersons, you are all fabulous beyond words!

Steph, can I go trick-or-treating with you this year?

Nonie said...

Aigh! Tell Steph she has GOTTA put full-sized pics up on the web somewhere and TELL US WHERE!

And I agree with tBN: The boots are the best part, and that's saying a lot.

Wow. Brenna is *good*.

The cannibal cake is adorable!

And Steph H. rocks my socks. I'm checking out Tomb Wrecks now. :-)

I wonder just how long it will be before there's a "bricks and morter" Cake Wrecks bakery, where people can go and purposely order their very own cake wrecks.

Wow!

I love the Freed's Bakery's shattered label-- nice touch!

And if the Jesus portrait at David's house ISN'T usually under a wash of light.... is this the first CW miracle we're witnessing? Or does Jesus just wish he had a cool tie like that?

I just checked out tombwrecks-- my first thought was, I hope no one gives her a bunch of flak like they hand Jen all the time-- and that's just over CAKE. Then I realized, how could they possibly?

Whoo hoo!! A Saturday post!!
Is it wrong that I think the weeding cake needs some raspberry blood dripping from it?

Yay Cannibul Cake!

Steph H., incredibly well done! Love it--and like the others, I agree that you deserve special kudos for the shoes. Too great.

And I also find Jesus' look of consternation pretty funny. Unfortunate though...I personally think Jesus has enough perspective that He could appreciate the absurdity and humor of naked mohawk baby carrot jockeys.

I love how the apostophe on the groom's cake also serves as a comma for the word "on."

Brilliant.

I also love how Jesus is seemingly disapproving of David's tie. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that!

And Breanna's cake is awesome!! It's adorable and looks so yummy.

WV: Ovenat. I wish I had a better ovenat at my house because I'm inspired to bake a cake!

LOVE Breena's cake!! Wow! :)

This post encapsulates absolutely everything I love about this site.

Wreckies really are a special kind of person... in absolutely the best possible way. Wreck on!

Where can I buy a Disapproving Jesus portrait? That is awesome.

The best part of the tie picture is the stern Jesus painting glowering in the background.

Re: Halloween Costume... It's a wreck of its own. I believe the front of the T-Shirt is supposed to read "You're" (You are) as opposed to "Your" (possessive). Pet peeve of mine.

Those are awesome! I told my friends I wanted a Wreck for my birthday, so they ordered me a cake that said "Happy Birhtday?"
The decorator looked at us like we were drunk. To be fair, it was a college town on Homecoming Friday, so they probably do get a lot of drunk people in the grocery store.

Sara said...

Yay! My wedding wreck made it! Kerri, I didn't even notice the thing about the apostrophe being a comma as well - nice catch!

Eh... I can't say I like the tomb wrecks site at all. interesting idea, but i can't help but feel sorry for the families, especially knowing that people make fun of what they chose to put on their loved one's tombstone.

The grammar mistakes are one thing, but if someone choses to put a car, a soccer ball, and a cross country emblem on their 20 year old son's tombstone, who are we to laugh at that? It's what they remember their son by.

Not to be a debbie downer or anything... and if you enjoy it, then by all means, i won't try to stop you. It's just not for me.

Loew said...

Does anyone know what they do with all that cake after a big contest? Is it eaten by the people attending the contest or donated?

Anonymous said...

@Julie--

Sorry, but you can't be a human Cake Wreck while using proper grammar...unless, of course, YOU are also intending to be funny now, as Steph was with that shirt. In that case, my bad.

*snicker*

The disapproving Jesus simply MAKES that picture of David's carrot jockey tie.
I must know: was it a prop? Huh? Huh? WAS IT?

VERY unimpressed by Tomb Wrecks. So far below the level of humor here, in fact, more often than not, quite offensive. Making fun of the tombstones of five-year-olds, for instance, is not my cup of tea, and I must say that I'm surprised it is yours.

queenscook said...

Julie--
I don't think you quite got it that Steph's costume was a tribute to Cake Wrecks.

Wolverine Girl said...

I love the "Happy Motnicovicterhood" cake. Especially the garden gnomes. The wheelbarrow gnome looks like he's getting ready to ram into the gnome sitting on the right.

I came over from Aion's site.
I love, love pics and cake!
Have a wonderful weekend!

What happened to you taking Saturdays off? Go get some rest!

I have that same portrait on my wall (looking at it right now, actually) and I don't think it looks disapproving in real life - just something about the context. :D

But, if you want your very own, it is by artist Del Parson. :D

I´m with carolyn on the tomb wrecks...very bad taste and not funny at all.

Jen said...

I love all the comments about the Jesus picture. Isn't it a Mormon picture of Jesus? Ha...

GeeCat said...

Now, now... I personally think Jesus is doing that look to provide the perfect "srs bzns" counterpart to silly David and son.

Also, with the bright lamp highlighting his picture, he's totally photobombing them. It's a twofer!

Which just proves Jesus' divine sense of humor. Well, that and the fact that He loves me! ^__~

Gale said...

Oh my word! Amazing Cake Wrecks costume! Hmmmm...costume contest next Halloween?

Anonymous said...

@ Carolyn

Well said, I couldn't have put it better if I tried!

I think it is in bad taste too, for the same reasons!

Jen said...

Wow. That tomb wreck site is in awful taste. These people are gone and what we might find funny or stupid, they might have meaning to friends or family. And I don't care what it looks like- Kids tombstones should be off limits. How can you find anything remotely funny about a marker of a 6 year old?

That Groom's cake is a wreck for a wedding, but less of a wreck for librarians (weeding is the removal of out of date books or books in poor physical condition).

Rich said...

He's wearing a suit and tie to church, whadda want?!? No one said anything about not having naked babies on carrots on it. I like it.
