Sunday Sweets: More Potter!

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Once a week here on Cake Wrecks we post the best of the best of the best cakes out there. And most of the time, the comments go a little something like this:

"Oooooohh pretty!"

Last week, however, sparked a debate rarely seen in these parts, and instead of comments we got seven page dissertations on popular 20th century children's literature and its effect on modern culture and resulting religious, racial and socioeconomic implications. And guess who had to moderate all those comments? That's right: me.

Every.

Last.

Word.

So this week, we're going to look at some more Potter sweets, but we're gonna do it a bit differently. This week we're gonna look at the pretty pictures, and when we're done, we're gonna do our comments Twitter style, meaning 140 letters or less. Capisce? Everybody with me? Okay then. Here goes.

(Made by Yulia)

Ooooh, pretty.

(Made by WhiplashGirlchild)

Lookit the potion bottle! Cool!

(Made by Courtney Clark of Cake Nouveau)

Game of Quidditch, anyone?

(Made by Pricilla from Pricilla's Cottage)

Bernard, you lucky bum.

(Made by Chotda)

This is a Mandrake, and I'm pretty sure the pot is cake, too.

(Made by Springlakecakes)

It must have been deeply satisfying to take a bite out of the Monster Book of Monsters.

(Made by Britta)

It lights up! Like magic!

(Made by Deanna's Aunt Despina and found here)

Awww. Hedwig's looking charmingly chubby here.

And that wraps up our Potter Sweets - hope you all enjoyed!

As always, if you'd like to nominate a Sweet you can send it to Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com.

OMG!!! My idea for my wedding cake!!!Tonks and Lupin as the bride and Groom!!! Genius!"

Plue_plue I want to see that cake when it's made. As someone who dresses as Tonks to midnight premiers, I am thinking of stealing your idea for my own wedding cake.

The mandrake cake has to be my favorite.

Long time reader, first time comment....er. I love all your posts, but I love the sunday sweets about books the best. There should be more book cakes in general.
For all HP freaks: best fanfiction ever, about Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs when they were in school. Also lots of Snape, Lilly, and strangely Kinsley Shaklebolt. Though beware, there is Remus/Sirius romance.

My wedding cake is so going to be Sirius/Remus themed now...

Oh my gosh, those are all amazing! I love them and Harry!!

Laci said...

wow they're all so beautiful! I'm sorry for all you had to deal with, Jen and John! It should be all about the cakes, not the content. And I love HP and these cakes are fantastic. I love that someone made a mandrake cake, so creative!

I adore the texture on the sorting hat cake as well as the Mandrake root one. Three cheers for Harry Potter themed sweets!

Aww, I can't decide which one I like best. The books are great, but the Monster Book of Monsters is soo cute *g* And the castle is stunning. Oh - and I am really fond of the Mandrake as well :-)

"the thing about irony is that it has to be obvious to work"

Oh no it doesnt. Subtle irony which the target completely fails to understand is even better as you can then sneer at their ignorance.

The disclaimer about comments regarding Potter-hate and the hate of potter haters etc saddens me. I'm a youth leader in a church, and we love potter. it's a great allegory for christ, and a lot of good principles. and it's AWESOME storytelling, just like this awesome blog.

Great idea from Beth/ haiku style posts save your time/and limit snarking.

Someone tell that to Jonathan Swift. (excellent read - A Modest Proposal, and no, he's not being serious, even if he never comes out and says it's satire)

Excellent cakes as usual. LOVE the Mandrake.

Best nursing memory is an empty-nester couple. Wife was in the hospital very long-term with a nasty bug that was eating her up, literally. Husband would come every evening and read Harry Potter to her. They were an adorable couple! If I knew where they were, I would make her a HP cake!

The Golden Uterus Award was created to recognize excellence in uteri-related activies, including nurturing fertilized ovum, expanding to ten times the original size for comfortable fetus storing, shedding endometrium, and things involving the word mucus!

This year's nominees include renowned figures in the uterine community such as the uterus of Michelle Duggar for Lifetime Achievement and Octomom's uterus for Best Uterus in a Leading Role.

Stay tuned for the Red Carpet pre-show! You won't wanna miss what these uteruses have to say. Now for a word from our sponsor, Clearblue Pregnancy Test - the most advanced piece of technology you will ever pee on.

...and I didn't realize there were two pages of comments, so for the record, my comment is about this:

"For a second I thought the quittich ball was the Golden Uterus Award."

I don't wander to random blogs and wax poetical about uteri. I mean...well, not very often anyway. :)
