Passive Aggressive Notes, eat your heart out. ;)

How, Mary L.?

Smilies make everything better. Here, I'll show you:
I despise you all, you bunch of idiots. ;)

See? The little ;) shows I'm joking! ;)

Also, last I checked California was still attached. Just sayin'.

UPDATE: Yes, my loyal and attentive Wreckies, I DID see the apostrophe is in the wrong place on this cake. Rest assured I am not advocating some new radical apostrophe-placement coup. It's bad. Baaa-aad.

Q: Hey, what's better than a mean goodbye cake?

A: One that's misspelled! Duh.

"That's nice of you to say, but it does seem like you're a little biased, being the seller and all..."

Chris, Heather, Ellen F., Mike, & Erin M., are you guys still here?

Oh dear.
Sometimes its unclear if the fault is with the cake decorator or the cake buyer.

The Courteous Chihuahua said...

I think I'll start putting those cakes on co-workers desks who AREN'T leaving, just to see what happens.

Anonymous said...

And the apostrophe is in the wrong place....pretty sure it goes after the 're, not just the e.

Morgan said...

Haha, "go back to jersey". Such lulz.

AsylumTanya said...

Nice apostrophe there, Denmark.

Little Fish said...

I lived in Denmark for six months after college. I really hope cake number four wasn't intended for me!

Anonymous said...

apostrophe problem on the 'hooray you're leaving' cake. :)

The Imaginary Reviewer said...

I'm shocked that you didn't mention the misplaced apostrophe in "your'e leaving [sic]"!

Anonymous said...

Don't forget, wrecks MUST have incorrect punctuation...HOORAY YOUR'E LEAVING...WTF? Sooo close, too! Love the 1st one, though, in all it's dissing wreckiness.

Anonymous said...

Dear Lord, are those cigarettes on the last cake?

Anonymous said...

Go back to Jersey? Woah woah woah...let's not say things we don't mean here folks! I mean that's just HARSH.

I think my last boss would have gotten me one of these cakes if she could have done it and still maintained her sickeningly sweet exterior facade. There sure is a lot of passive aggressive cake decorating going around these days.

Rebecca said...

In some circles, "Go Back to Jersey" really isn't that much of an insult. :P

...Though it is pretty funny. If I'd gotten a cake like that in college, I would have taken the advice! (But that was in CT.)

Cheryl said...

But just look at the care that was taken in creating the image of California!

Mrs.Naz@BecomingMe said...

As always, these mad me laugh so hard. The first one is the definite winner in my book followed by the flag one. Too funny

Anonymous said...

At least these coworkers have sense of humor I guess.

What's up with the indian face on Pat's cake?

the ginabean said...

I'm laughing so hard at all of these cakes. See?! Simple is good! Oh, I think I would laugh my butt off if I ever received one of these cakes. (Mostly because I'm secure in my friendships; people just like me.)

I also learned I've been misspelling "you're" all these years. Apparently the apostrophe comes between the R and the E. Now I know...

Ace said...

At least the "Hooray - You're Leaving" cake it really pretty. That makes it all better!

Anonymous said...

Hmm, which is sadder, the random Pocahontas, or the missplaced apostrophe in you're? I think the Native American would be more moving if it had a single tear like in those littering commercials.

Anna said...

OMG...of all the misplaced apostrophes I've ever seen....that takes the cake! (pun intended...)

your apostrophe e?!?! wow.

Anonymous said...

Getting some good cake ideas here ;)

CrazyKwilter said...

wow, I feel the love...

Anonymous said...

LOL! I also love the YOUR'E. I have to admit, that's a new one for me.

Anonymous said...

I also like the improper usage of the apostrophe in the "Hooray your'e leaving" cake....

Deanna said...

"You're leaving", not "Your'e leaving". ;)

Rachel said...

I'm sure you already got at least one comment on this. But, "your'e" is definitely misspelled on that cake. :)

Anonymous said...

On the norweigian one, I've never seen that particular spelling of "you're" before: your'e.

Anonymous said...

No comment on the position of the apostrophe on the Denmark cake?

peewee said...

LOVE the "pat" one....what's up with the little indian lady? she doesn't seem too happy.

jengersnap said...

Oh my, did California finally fall into the sea?

Guess it was so unimportant it didn't even make Twitter. Humph.

On the other hand, there's a few people in my past I wouldn't mind giving that first cake to.

Anonymous said...

Not to mention the misplaced apostrophe on the "hooray, your'e leaving" cake. Too funny! You make me laugh every day!

Jen said...

I'd like to know some of the back stories on these. Too funny!

Anonymous said...

On the Norway cake, "your'e leaving"? They get a mean cake with incorrect use of an apostrophe!

Cate said...

Love the poor punctuation on the 4th cake. Mean and dumb go together so fabulously.

And wuddup with that Indian? WTF is that supposed to be about? Did someone quit the cigar shop?

Anonymous said...

Hmmmm....the apostrophe is in the wrong spot on the Hooray cake. Unless I am missing a letter between the R and the E when I spell 'are'.

Kira said...

Thank you. Had a bad day, this made me smile:-D (in this case the :-) is not to show that I'm kidding).

Was happy to see my flag on the cake, I feel that this is the closest I'll ever come to a Danish wreck since you'll have to have cake decorations to make wrecks...

Anonymous said...

I would love to know the stories behind these.

Angie (from over at www.HalfAssedKitchen.com)

HorribleLicensePlates said...

It looks like someone rolled some joints and put them on that last cake.

D.B. Echo said...

Perhaps the "Good Buy" is referring to the funny cigarettes on top of the cake.

Anonymous said...

Is the last cake topped with hand-rolled turd cigarettes?

Anonymous said...

The "Good Buy, Amy" cake appears to have cigarrette butts all over it. What's up with that?

Kara said...

the first one is obviously for an american history class...

Doublebanker said...

If only people would be so happy that I'm leaving...or maybe they are? Hmmmmm

Wow. There are some mean people in the world. :(

Anonymous said...

I LOVE the spelling error cakes! Although, the Good Buy Amy cake could be redeemed by the portion sizes drawn out on top--nice big pieces!

Anonymous said...

Way to be blunt, people. Couldn't they even add a Goodbye, Best Wishes or a "We'll miss you" (quotation marks included, of course)?

But I guess if you are going to tell it like it is may as well say it in frosting!

Kat said...

Awww... these cakes brought me back to a place I didn't want to go... my high school graduation cake said, "Congrats! Now get out!"

I'm not joking. But I can't complain about the professional execution of my cake. These are pretty wrecky!

Sarah Glova said...

I would be an unhappy Indian too, Pat. Your'e cake sucks as much as the Denmark mis-apostrophe

E.A.D. said...

Ah, mean-spirited cakes. So sweet, yet so bitter. I'll take a slice from each one please!

Mallory said...

I especially like the misplaced apostrophe in the second-to-last cake. Ouch.

Anonymous said...

I'd like to know the story behind the Indian on Pat's cake. Does it have special significance, or did the bakery take some creative liberties?

Maybe the California one is saying "Good riddance" to California. Someone hated living there or something?

Tabitha (From Single to Married) said...

ha! That last one cracked me up!

If I may suggest a soundtrack for this post:

Get Back to Russia by Easterhouse
Leave in Silence by Depeche Mode
Get Back by the Beatles

Bibi said...

I like that the Jersey cake also has candles. Is it like an Advent Calendar? We blow out one candle every day until you're gone?

Unknown said...

I did a double-take on the Fudge Brownie one, b/c I thought it said "F*** Brownie." LOL

Do they think the cakes will make the insults sweeter?

~Amy B.

nikki said...

Question? On the "Good Buy Amy" cake... are those cigarette butts or joints?

Kami said...

These cakes remind me of that "Get out ... no, really ..." cake from a while back ... Ha ha ha!

CD said...

HEY DID YOU KNOW THE APOSTROPHE IS IN THE WRONG PLACE ON THAT ONE...

Oh, you did?

Can I point out that "riddance" is also misspelled?

Anonymous said...

Maybe on the Nordic cake the error is in spacing. Maybe the "Honoree's" name is Hoo Ray.

Anonymous said...

What's with Tiger Lily in the first one???

LOL My word verification is "Forsting". Frosting, forsting - it doesn't matter to a wreckorater!

Anonymous said...

Okay, so we in California are having issues. But last I checked we weren't leaving the country . . . *sniff* Mean cake people.

Unknown said...

Amy's good buy does look kind of tasty. I would have to agree with the cake.

Jackie said...

I think the person leaving would be REALLY happy to be leaving behind such horrible spellers.

HK said...

I have to admit, I'm pretty impressed with the font work on the California "Good Riddance" cake, if it was done with icing!

gryphondear said...

I thought it said GOOD BUY, AHOY. A sort of nautical bon voyage.

Anonymous said...

"Good ridance" is also misspelled, just saying. It's missing a d unless I really can't read the writing.

Anonymous said...

You know, on the "YOUR'E" cake, I was so proud that they used the right kind of "you're" at first, I didn't even notice the apostrophe misplacement... one can only dream...

Anonymous said...

The California cake reminds me of that "End of the world" Flash animation that was all over the interwebs a few years ago.

Microbial Tea said...

Why are there tar filled-cigarettes on the last cake? I've never seen rolled wafer cookies put to such waste.
Maybe the farewell was so good, everyone needed a cig afterwords?

Mallory said...

The California cake is nicely done!

Anonymous said...

Oh wow, my "Good Ridance" ice cream cake made it! I'm a big shot now! :D

The girl misspelled "Riddance" even after asking us to spell it for her!

Anonymous said...

While detached, the California was fairly well-executed.

Heidi D said...

I have to agree, California is still attached. I hope so anyway. I want to go to Disneyland in the future. It's just my favorite place of all time.

l said...

This cracks me up! Some of those cakes remind me of my "Chinese Menu List. I just love this stuff!!!

I believe I know what the California cake was trying to say. More jobs have left California than any other state in the last 10 years, mainly because of their insane policy of taxing small businesses to the point that it is counterproductive to hire an employee.
So, they weren't saying that California was leaving, but they were leaving California for a place that less resembles Stalingrad.

Anonymous said...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how unappetizing the grey cake looks. It resembles asphalt...yum, ASPHALT!! Can I have two pieces?

Pilgrim said...

Ah.... I can FEEL THE LOVE...

I can think of a few co-workers over the years that deserved those cakes ;)

was Amy a heavy smoker ?
i'm just saying ....

I'm wondering if the Denmark one was a gift to the entire country from the EU after the signing of the Maastricht treaty.

Anonymous said...

Just. Plain. Funny.

Jo-Momma said...

I'm thinking the California cake isn't really about something happening to CA. I'm thinking all of CA is happy to be rid of whoever the cake is for.

Shoshanah Marohn said...

I LIKE THAT "GOOD RIDANCE" IS ON A HIGH CHAIR TRAY! So, if you were, like, riding the high chair with wheels, it would almost make sense?

Reni said...

heyy i´m biggg fan of the blog, yestarday i recive from a internet order a horrible barney cake but i dont know how to send the pict to you

Anonymous said...

oh, goodness, as a Cold Stone cake decorator, I recognize this as one of our older "Midnight Delight" cakes, although we changed the kind of pirouline on the top years ago. Rest assured, most of our cake decorators (or at least me) are more educated in homophones than this.

Well, considering the state of the economy, perhaps giving goodbye cakes is considered a bit more kind than giving a pink slip. Eat cake, THEN clean out your desk.

It would help if they spelled it right, though.

And I adore the border on the California cake. I'm asking for that border on the next cake I get. Very well-executed cake, even if I can't figure out what the heck it means.

Word verification: charifs. If these cakes are left in your chairifs, you're in trouble. Hasta la vista, baby!

Anonymous said...

Writing "How" under the cake that's really upsetting about indigenous people is the most offensive thing on this post.

The second most offensive thing is that apparently everyone is more freaked out by apostrophes than by racism.

Anonymous said...

Oh my. I lived in Denmark for three years and returned to the states mid-February, so that cake could've easily been for me. Although it probably would've said "Tillykke, og godt rejse." At least, I hope it would've.

Anonymous said...

are those cigarettes on the "buy" cake??

also, I'm gonna need several dozen of those Go Back To Jersey! cakes. for reals.

Anonymous said...

I can't help but think of the following when I look at the second cake (the "Good Riddance" cake with California on it). There used to be a punk band from Santa Cruz, CA called Good Riddance. They were pretty awesome. Info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Riddance

Maybe the cake-wanter was a GR fan?

Thoroughly enjoy your blog. I have laughed myself into tears many times on it.

Ro said...

Oh wow - I love the Good Riddance smiley face cake. Classic.

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty offended by the racist cake, and the more racist commentary.

wow, it's surprising that more people weren't offended by this.

Anonymous said...

I suppose it's too much to hope that the Danish cake is actually for someone called Hooray...

(Not exactly likely though!)

Anonymous said...

I didn't notice the "How" caption before A & S mentioned it. eep.

Etiquette Bitch said...

okay, I want to know the story behind CW1. Why the Indian? Or Native-American, if you're pc.

these were pretty hilarious.

Anonymous said...

Whats with the Native American face on the first cake? Was Pat part of a tribe and had a teepee for her desk and nobody liked it? Or maybe she scalped her boss? Odd.....

HaskinsHouse said...

WOW, why would you even waste your time buying the cake if you were that excited to get rid of someone. OUCH!!!! These take the cake.

Anonymous said...

The drawing of California is pretty good.

Anonymous said...

The last one appears to be covered in joints. Maybe they meant Good Buy as in "Way to buy some great weed, Mary!" Am I the only one who sees this?

Queen of All Wild Things said...

The California cake makes sense if you watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZMwKPmsbWE

Perhaps it is a cake from the rest of the U.S. to California!

Kathleen Gudmundsson said...

Are the candles on the Danish flag cake letters spelling out "yay"?

Anonymous said...

I can see California, Jersey, and Denmark as all cheerful: someone is going (away from CA, to Jersey, and to Denmark) and is happy about it and their friends are celebrating with them. Even the Don't let the door... cake could be, if it's an in-joke - as, promoted to a better job. The wistful Indian isn't necessarily racist; it may refer to the metaphor of the number of chiefs vs regular Indians, and someone's promotion.

Anonymous said...

To some comments:
That's the Danish flag. How do I know? Because the Norwegian flag has a blue band inside the white band. This is the Dannebrog. :)

It's a cute cake, despite the misplaced apostrophe. I want a cake that insults me if I ever leave Denmark (if I even go..)

Anonymous said...

So good to see my cake here! I moved to Denmark for a few months as part of my uni course, so my friends thought up the "Thank God You're Leaving" cake. The bakery clearly had no understanding of the basics of English grammar, but at least they knew there should be an apostrophe somewhere! Incidentally, the bakery was in South London.

Anonymous said...

I've just read through all the comments, just wanted to say that the 'Thank God You're Leaving' cake was given to me just before I moved to Denmark (NOT Norway!) by two very good friends, it wasn't meant with malice!

Anonymous said...

I see the California cake as either someone who had a going-away party, moving to CA; or someone who finally escaped its eeeevil clutches.

Anonymous said...

Am I the only person who interpreted the Amy cake as "Amy is dying of lung cancer, here are some cigarette butts to show our enthusiasm at our loss"? Yes? Okay. Never mind, then.

Anonymous said...

For my high school graduation, my mom had them make my cake say "Get the hell out" in red cursive surrounded by pretty icing flowers.

There's a gaping hole where my mother's love should be.

This is distinctly a Coldstone Creamery Cake. They are notorious for cake wrecks.

PDN has not responded to the accusations of passive racism, so it is hard to say whether it is an oversight on their part, or something more sinister. It appears more to be a symptom of the culture.

The cake that says "Good Riddance" with California, I think is Green Day because they are from California and they have a song called Good Riddance(Time of your Life)
