Sunday Sweets: So Stinkin' Cute

Sunday, January 30, 2011

This week we're featuring some of the sweetest, cutest, most adorable, lovable, um... [consulting thesaurus] darling, bewitching, and fetching baby animal cakes you ever will see. Why? Well, if you must know, I'm feeling a bit sensitive this week.

This is john, by the way.

So, let me just get my box of tissues and we'll do this thing. Starting with Jen's favorite:

Found at the 2008 Orlando ICES Convention; baker unknown.

The hand-painted shading here is amazing. And the animals are adorable. And the lion isn't eating the zebra or the giraffe. So it's a win-win-win.

This cake is slightly more realistic:

Sub'd by Hilda F., and made by The Sweetest Thing Cake Studio

See how the monkey and giraffe cower in fear as the mighty tiger stalks his prey? Can you feel the tension? Can. You. FEEL IT?!?! No?

Maybe it's just me.

And now... sweet sleeping dragon!

Sub'd by Amelie B. and made by her sister Helene

Awwww. Okay. *sniff* I'm all verklempt. *sniff* I promised myself I wouldn't cry...

[blowing nose]

Hey! Look! Pandas!

Sub'd by Aljona and made by KralleCakes

And not just any pandas; these are the rare Russian Nesting Pandas. The mostly eat eucalyptus leaves and borscht.

Preeeesenting, the sweetest giraffe ever!

Literally. I think the lack of neck really adds to the adorabletude, don't you?

And because I have an inordinate affection for tigers:

Sub'd by Jade D. and made by Theresa Gue

So. Cool. Jen says this reminds her of some Lisa Frank folders she had in middle school. Which she claims is a huge compliment. So there.

And you know what else has stripes? (I am the king of segues)

Sub'd by Brenda B., and made by Lilo Taart

I'm digging the bow and the vintage 20's hair part. Just dandy!

And speaking of bows. (I'm on a roll!)

By Aletha B.

Baby Cthulhu!! AAAAAUUUGGHH!! SOOO CUUUUTE!!

And get this: this is Aletha B.'s first cake. Yes, really! Mike, Duff, and Bronwen better watch out, 'cuz Aletha B.'s coming, and she's got a Cthulhu.

And speaking of... cake. (Okay, that one wasn't my best work.)

By Ann N.

Adorable. And hip. Oh. Yeah.

Another of Jen's favorites:

Sub'd by Orna G., and made by Odelia

Hand-painted rosebuds, cuddly teddy bears, and a miniature cake on cake? I can bearly stand it!

And finally, for your viewing pleasure, allow me to present...

a unicorn with a comb-over:

Sub'd by Elizabeth A., and made by Sachi Swick

You're welcome.

k, let's be real here. I'd keep the book and buy him a stuffed animal. He can't even read yet anyways.

I can't decide between the baby cthulu or the sleeping dragon for my favorite! Also anything with baby animals on it is heart meltingly sweet.

Erica Fredman said...

What kind of a geek are you, Jen?! Those aren't just Pandas - they are FlatPanda, a goods character made by San-X, the eternal rival of Sanrio. Sheesh, you'd think you didn't follow Japanese toy rivalries or something....

Christina said...

Oh I can't decide if I love the baby Cthulu more or that gorgeous baby blue dragon...actually I think the detail is more stunning on the dragon....Ilove them all! If we do win, we'd love the ZooBabies book for little kids. I have a 3 year old. She has a visual impairment but we still read to her all the time. I hope it's one of those sturdy cardboard books? She's a grabber.

Stoich9 said...

Cruelness of cruelness! I am the 4th commenter demanding an explanation as to why there was no baby announcement at the end of this post! :D "I'm feeling sensitive"...so vauge! So misleading!!! :D LOL Well, we can get our hopes up, every now and then, even though you're ALWAYS insisting how FULFILLING the kitties are in your life, I assure you, there were probably more than 4 people holding their breath to wonder if yes, indeed, there was a reason behind your sentiments, particularly one attached to baby cakes. Meh, maybe next time! :D

The cakes were GREAT! Thanks for the giveaway!

Kelly said...

The second book would be super nice to have!

Oh John, hope you're feeling better now. You didn't quite get around to sharing what the sensitivity was.... maybe not for public consumption, unlike these divine cakes, the best collection I've seen. Sooo squeeee! I love soft and cuddly wild animals, you know they're not really like that, but you wanna hug and kiss them anyway. Our two-year-old would love the first book, if you're offering... thx.

I'd love to have the zooborn book that's for adults. :o)

PS - Sunday Sweets are my favorite. The wrecks are funny, and bizarre; but I love to see the wonderful artistic cakes even more!

I love the baby hippo. Wait, I need to say that again. I LOVE the baby hippo.

And if I were to win the book, I'd love the one for little kids... I get to go see my far-away nieces next weekend and I'd love to give it to them! :)

Baby Chthulu AND nesting pandas? Sunday sweets, you've outdone yourself. Actually, anyone that can make Chthulu look sweet has done some outdoneing. I had to Wikipedia it, and it was one nasty beast until that baker got her hands on it!

Baby Chthulu for the win!!!

We'd love either book. My two boys (ages 5 & 1) love the Zooborns site. It's one of the few websites we can enjoy together and it's great for teaching them about animals. Heck, I even found animals on there I didn't know about!

Awww! I'd dig the kid Zooborn book the most, but really I'd love the second, too. Thanks for the giveaway. :D

Well, first of all, I was "squee"ing through this whole Sunday Sweet. Then you offered the books! My daughter told me about the second one because the little fox looks just like our doggy, Charlotte. Charlotte is a rescue (yes, I will use that to win a book) part Chihuahua and part Shiba Inu (it's like an Akita only smaller). If she found out we won the book she loves from the website I love (and let her see often), we'd be in Heaven! Thanks! Z. Sowada

my 15 month old loves "a-muls" (her word for animals). And we love books (and CAKE)! We'd be happy to take one of the books off your hands.
