It's supposed to be a shirt.
See, you can tell by the...uh...well, by asking the Wreckerator.
Thanks to Mary M., who blames hippies with lava lamps in the 60's.
Personally, I think it was Lucy. In the sky. With diamonds.
Anyone want to check the envelope?
(P.S. If you got that, I love you. And if you didn't, just consider this post script a red herring.)

LOVE Clue, the cake... not so much.
You were right! The cards in the envelope were Lucy, with the diamonds in the sky. WOOHOO! You win!
It's like communism that way.
Ha ha! I love this! And I really am enjoying these little tidbits of fun throughout the day! ;)
Gah, it looks like it's DRIPPING.

wow, I asked for three posts at 12:15 and got it! Can I ask for a puppy too? Luv you!
Red Herring to me. I don't get the last line! Awesome cake!
Maybe the stamps, if not the envelope? You know, the ones with a smiley face on them?
This looks more like a rocket ship that returned from one of the many Futurama galaxies. Perhaps Hippie-65?
It’s supposed to be a shirt? I just thought it was a lumpy sheet cake.
Barf. Literally.
ps red herring *snort*
This wreckerator should have cheated and used the Wilton t-shirt pan. The tie dye was at least effective in that it gave me a headache.
~~Di
I still prefer Col. Mustard in the kitchen with the candlestick, but I'm just old fashioned like that.
So, I love the mini posts. Then when I get bored at work and check again, there is something new there! :)
Actually I recognized as a "tie dyed" t-shirt before reading the caption.
Uh-oh...I think my inner Wreckerator is about to come out. Because that totally looks like a shirt to me. It's just sideways.
Then again, it looks pretty homemade, too. Sometimes I see these wrecks, and I'm all "Hey! It's not that bad!" And then I remember, "Hey! I'm a COMPLETE amateur and it looks like I made it! Should I be offended right now?"
And then, I'm all "Oh, riiiiight. It's supposed to be a Pro Job. Therefor, better than what I could do." ;-)
(Please oh please be a "Clue" reference!) :D
Carmen, the Un-Stalker
Oh, yeah... I can see the shirt, but I admit I'm on some medication that makes things look the way they are supposed to. :-)

This... is what you see when you rub your eyes too hard. Yuk.
CLUE REFERENCE, HELL YEAH!
...At least, I do believe that is what you're referring to.
Also, that is one ugly shirt, if you can even call it that.
How silly of me for not knowing that Lucy killed Mr. Boddy. Now I know.
Oh come on... it wasn't that bad... for a CCC that was supposed to be shirt... I guess... well, maybe it is that bad. After all it's a CCC (has anyone else noticed more and more of them and cookies showing up on here? or is it just me?)
I asked my wife what she thought this cake (actually a CCC is you look closely at the edges) is, and she said, "That's a tie-dyed shirt. Or a turtle. But probably a shirt."
Awesome.
And I agree with Jennifer - a reference to the stamps would have been more fitting for a "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" reference, even if the meaning behind the name is an urban legend. (The title comes from the name of a picture that Julian Lennon drew of his teacher when he was very little.)
Or "Fit to be dyed"
its a t shirt, made of cupcakes...
At first I was like "OMG, did I somehow miss THREE WHOLE days of CW?!?" Then I read the multiple posting thing and sighed. I thought maybe I blacked out for two days. Haha... Love it. Keep 'em comin'!
Blast it.. I thought the "envelope" mention was a reference to PCP-laced stamps or something. :(
Also, that tie-dye job is kind of amazing, IMHO, if only it were t-shirt-shaped and without the white "outline". And not on cupcakes.
Got the tie dye, no problem, but it looked more like one of those fish that are mostly head with small inadequate-looking fins than a cake, especially considering the neck and sleeves.
Oh, Jen, Jen, Jen. Have you not been to Oregon lately?
It's not tie-dye, it's Eugene camouflage.
Weird, they did an amazing job on the tie-die part (difficult) but then they couldn't handle a shirt shape (I'm no graphic artist, but I could cut a T-shirt shape without benefit of a special pan) and then they threw on weird ugly piping just for grins.
The tiedye cake would have been perfect for peace day tom ;)
I got the clue.
The wreck looks like Jerry Garcia became roadkill.
Yes I did it. I wrecked this cake. I hated it...so...much. It-it-it-it flamed - flames on the sides of my face. Heaving, breathl...heaving breaths. Heaving...
That "shirt" looks more like a slice of white bread with an assortment of mold growing on it. See my kitchen for details.
The Amazing Karnak?!
The answer is:
3 things, no 4, related to John
1. Elton John (LSD - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds)
2. Johnny Carson's Karnak envelope clues
3. John Vreeke's Red Herring
And finally,
4. The author of this post
And monkey's brains, though popular in Cantonese cuisine, are not often to be found in Washington D.C.
The tie dye effect is actually kinda cool. The shape, though... wut? They should have just stuck with a regular rectangular cake, tie-dyed.
nope, sorry..... the envelope was actually "i am his, you are his, you are me, and we are all together"...... which actually does mention lucy in the sky...... so, hey! you do win!
Well I was really trying today to "get it" and I was sure the tie dye cake was a distorted map of the US with maybe a white fence around it for the illegal aliens - or any other aliens that might go wacko by eating all that food dye. Sorry, I tried. I'll just watch and snort and chuckle on my own from now on. Norine
When I was a teenager I once tie dyed a t-shirt in a hotel toilet. Don't ask. Anyway, my toilet tie dye job turned out much better than this cake. I suspect it might have tasted better as well.
I gotta tell ya -- I like the longer, single entry better. There's no continuity within the shorter entries. It's like a sitcom with stand-alone episodes -- it's never going to earn the accolades of the hour-long drama.
I think it might have been all the acid the decorator did back in the 60's or 70's.
Looks like one of those things where you spin it and put different colors on it to get a picture.. Ah the fun I had with those just not on CCC..bleh!
It's SO bad it almost makes me long for the Haight and real tie dye circa 1969
WV: ovenst= the baker must have had the ovenst for disaster instead of 350.
1 + 1 + 2 + 1-! Now, I'm going home to sleep with my wife.
Dear Cake Wrecks,
I came to your site just now and saw a short post and was sorta bummed. Then I scrolled down and was like WOOOOO. Then I kept scrolling down and it was like Christmas.
That is all.
It's a CCC (patooie!) that looks like it could be used as a biological weapon, which is almost redundant. What else do I need to know?
I like the new format. As J&J note, there will still be the 'marathon' posts from time to time.
Interesting that those in the 'like' column are more likely to have names / handles...
wv: micese. What Mickey & Minnie speak in private.
I'd say it was good if it turned out looking the way I'm sure they dreamed it to.
So completely didn't get the envelope reference....
When I was younger I thought the lyrics were
"Lucy's in a fight with Linus" hehehe
As a note, I don't like the short posts as much as the long ones.
Like another poster said "no real continuity"
Multiple postings are fine sometimes, just not all the time please.
I'm thinking that if people don't get the references, they will be of a sort that have no idea what a red herring is anyway and will ask if it is served pickled or dilled.
Obviously, the cake looks correct if you've had a dose of 'shrooms.
"You know, it doesn't look much like a t-shirt." - "Well, how 'bout if we slather some of this drippy white icing in the shape of a rectangle and put it out in the garage to melt for awhile?!" - "Yeah! That's way better!"
It's Peacock, Scarlet and Mustard; in the kitchen; with the airbrush
I can't say at what angle the shirt appears, but my coworkers are looking at me funny for turning my monitor over...and over...
wv: nonesi - new way to see "none see" of which I concur
Koo koo ka choo.
Which means, "What the heck were they ON when they made this?"
HA HA I thought it was a really bad USA map... tie dyed. I hate CCC's!
Jenn
HAHAHA
tis fabulous!
... and I really dont mean the cake...
is that seriously a CCC, airbrushed, tshirt lump?
whether it was no matter who or where, the weapon was definitely an implement of cake wreckage.
I'm a singing telegram *BLAM*
Like Norine and Jenn, I was going for the slightly less obvious and saw a map of the United States. Let's face it, it's way more accurate than most of the attempts at maps that I've seen here. My second guess would have been a weird mutant rectangular fish with giant lips.
WV: cepshs - a weird mutant fish with rectangular lips.
Aw fiddles! When you said Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I was looking for entirely the wrong kind of substance in the envelopes! :-P
And to make a long story short....
TOO LATE!!!
Jenn - I thought I was done with that Verizon torture. Please tell me that was a complete fluke and you weren't referencing that horrible R2D2 hunt because the entire end of your post looks like an entry from the droid landing forum and I thought it was over and I was safe to browse the web!!
Far out - do the hippy hippy cake.
I am the walrus....Kookookachoo
Stumblin' through the neon... GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES!!!
