Happy Earth Day to You...

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

So.

Hey everybody. This is john (the hubby of Jen) taking on today's post since Jen is...um...busy. Yeah. So how 'bout that post yesterday, huh? It's like one minute everything's all hunky-dory, and then next thing I know Jen's threatening to strike over something to do with a Disney font. Last I saw, she was on the couch in her memory foam slippers with a pint of Chunky Monkey and watching SGA reruns. I believe her exact words to me were, "YOU write it!!!" And I see the facial tic is back. Greeeaaat.

Which brings us to Earth Day!!! (Wait. Why are we still doing Earth Day cakes? It was like a week ago. *sigh*) Earth Day!!! Who doesn't love cake for their Earth Day? I thought it would be hard to find Earth Day cakes but it turns out those kooky decorators are still making them!

Our first cake was actually made for some guy named Scopios. I mean, what a crazy name, right? But this guy must really love Earth Day 'cause someone got him a cake.

Too bad this decorator doesn't know how to spell!*

And how about this next one?

Hey Tori Beth! Earth Day's been around for a long time ya know. What, were you born, like, a year ago?

And finally, here's the last one, which is why it's called finally.

Who else thinks we should take the airbrush out of the hands of the bakers? Who's with me?!?! You know. 'Cause the meat folks could put them to better use. For ham glazes. And signs.

So that's my post. Hopefully Jen will be back soon, although I just heard her tell the cat "Spaceship Earth is IN Epcot" between mouthfuls.

Katie V., Chelle, & Sarah A., Wreck On!

*See, what I did here is I took the "B" out of the word "Birthday" to make it sound like "Earth Day" even thought that is clearly not what the cake was supposed to say. I did this because there were almost no actual Earth Day cakes submitted, which means that either a) they were all fantastic, b) there were none made, or c) everybody has thrown their batteries into a lake and, thusly, nobody has a working camera. Thank you and good night!

Brilliant. Punny. And your photoshop skills are top-notch. :)

Poor Jen. Not long now until she's shuffling around town in crazy-lady fuzzy slippers, mumbling, "Epcot Schmepcot" over and over...

<3 Jen and John! <3
Looking forward to next earth day, I promise I'll make a cake just for you Jen - one that is distinctly NOT Epcot looking.

Awesome job once again, John!

Jen, don't you let the man get you down, girl! You rock it!!

Michelle said "Poor Jen. Not long now until she's shuffling around town in crazy-lady fuzzy slippers, mumbling, "Epcot Schmepcot" over and over..."

I'll get her a room with a view of the harbour at work. We have lots of people there walking around in pj's slippers and mumbling to themselves. As far as I know, they don't get cake.

I thought E***t was the Death Star.

Cookies, cake, sprinkles and the incorrect spelling of Scorpios. Ick.

Laughed at #2 cuz I figured it out there.

#3 looks like someone went cheap and tried to combine a cake with a chia pet. What is that green stuff anyway?

wv falitiou...fell...ermmm oh my, this is a family show. o.O

If there was half this much humor floating around my house my kids wouldn't have a sensitive bone in their bodies.

It's fun to see that both of you have an amazing sense of humor.

I also think Scopios is a bit of an odd name.

Baking and Mistaking said...

Oh Jen. Don't worry. Just do what Tina Fey did in her Golden Globe acceptance speech. You know, when she told all them internet haters to "suck it."

You seem far too nice for that though.
Good thing I'm not :)

Awwwww Jen!!! We love you! I wasn't able to check CW yesterday *gasp* but I caught up today....I agree with the others who say people need to do their research. (((HUGS))) Jen......COME BACK TO US!!!!!!!

What? Oh. What?

Holly Denghel said...

You know, if you go on strike for a couple days, all them epcot-haters will be begging for more cakes!

Wait, don't do that. i didn't do anything wrong, and that would deprive me too.

Bilby P. Dalgyte said...

Haha that's quite... bad :P

Hey OK just one thing. You know you (John) can make a seperate account right and then JOIN this blog as a co-author so whenever you are forced to- I mean you kindly take the task of posting an entry you won't need to explain who you are because it'll say "Posted by John" instead of "Posted by Jen" and all shall be simpler in the world and we can focus on the cakes and not the identity of the person providing us with said cakes... not that I don't like your introductions. They're fine. John's a pretty cool name. Not as cool as Scopios but then again what is?

LaurenH said...

So scanning through the comments I see the people that feel the need to tell you these have been photoshopped is significantly less than the amount that felt the need to say "ep**t" and "d**ney font"

THEY CAN BE TAUGHT!!! :)

jen bryner said...

wow. first it's the epcot ridiculousness (how hard is it to read the comments people???) and now some of you are actually NOT noticing that john did this post on PURPOSE?? oy! personally, i thought it was hilarious! clever john, very clever:) i didn't realize you had done it until the second cake. where is everyone's sense of humor???

Buffy said...

Is that "irthday" cake supposed to say "Scorpios"?

Nice job, John! But Jen, we miss you :(

Yota Armai said...

Ok hello, Did you guys not read the whole post? If you did you would notice this excerpt:

"See, what I did here is I took the "B" out of the word "Birthday" to make it sound like "Earth Day" even thought that is clearly not what the cake was supposed to say. I did this because there were almost no actual Earth Day cakes submitted..."

He did it on purpose.

Lots of of hugs Jen and John! I read yesterday's post, but not the comments. I had know idea people were that ignorant about Space Ship Earth. To those who don't know, Space Ship Earth is to Epcot what Cinderella's Castle is to the Magic Kingdom. (Not to be confused with Sleeping Beauty's Castile at Disneyland.)

Ok stepping off the soapbox now.

Anonymous saidI think people should be required to read comments before making one. I can't believe the sheer number of people who said the SAME THING over and over yesterday!
Part of the reason for that is that comments are held for approval, so people might make a duplicate comment before the previous comment gets posted.

Scopios isn't a weird name.

I totally know a Scopios myself.

We used to play Mortal Kombat together. That was until he kept impaling we with a knife-on-a-rope and telling me to "get over here". That guy was such a jerk. I can't believe someone got him a cake. e_e

I love the site- and I hate that everyone feels the need to 'correct' you about the spaceship earth. I didn't realize that was it at all! I thought it was a golf ball! (I didn't notice the font.)
Seriously though, the fake irthday cakes are hilarious!

Sorry for the haters- I guess you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't! :)

I was about to say what Jackie said, but luckily I refreshed to see if there were any new comments.

Jen. John. I love you. In fact, now I think I'm going to read all of the COMMENTS on your entries on TOP of the entries themselves JUST FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT.

You know what I woke up to on "irthday"? My kids screaming and punching each other and rolling around on the floor, arguing over whether or not to turn on any lights in honor of the day. I wish *I* had been given an "irthday" cake instead!

Ahhhhh...Ben & Jerry's--good choice! Have you tried the "Yes, Pecan" flavor yet?
Come to Vt. and take the factory tour sometime--free samples!
I don't blame Jen one tiny whit for calling in too WELL to deal with us; no one could PAY me enough to put up with the INSANITY she has to, some days...I-YI-YI!!
Give her my best wishes for a speedy second wind, and John? Look on the bright side--at least the foam slippers are sufficing - no need for foam walls.

I kind of wonder if "Scopios" is actually supposed to be "ScoRpios" (minus the capital, of course); you know, as a generic, "there are too many of you having a birthday to fit all your names on this little cake I bought, so I'm generalizing" type thing.

no?

man. Please tell Jen that (as a Disney-loving Floridian who has maybe been to EPCOT too many times) I immediately knew what the hell she meant! also, y'know, if you're going to take a day off, SGA sounds like a fantastic way to spend it. so hopefully that will all work out well for her anyway.

I have not seen Earth Day cakes in my grocery stores. I did see one of those awful shaggy dog made of icing cakes, though. D:

If this were my blog, I think I would have run for the hills screaming (as illustrated at 00:40 of this little SFW clip =) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXAJS7n6Tb4) after reading yesterday's comments. Mine were in that group so...yeah. =D Anyway.

Although your Photoshop skills are...distinctive, John...gluing cookies on the side of a cake--a misspelled cake, no less!--isn't my idea of appetizing. The lettering on the last one is cute, in a way, but I detest airbrushed color on a cake almost as much as I detest the whipped cream frosting it's usually on.
So yes, this was a post in the finest Wreckiest tradition!

Please convey our best wishes to Jen for a speedy recovery. ;)

Honestly Jen, I don't blame you.

Reading the comments yesterday and today are making ME crazy.

ATTENTION READERS: Read the WHOLE post before you make uninformed comments. Jen clearly referenced "Spaceship Earth" in her post yesterday and John CLEARLY said today that he edited the photos to fit the "Earth Day" theme.

Seriously.

Anonymous said...

I thought the "Spaceship Earth" bit was a pretty good pun - but then again, I actually knew it was called Spaceship Earth (it's only one of my favorite rides). G'derr. Stupid people. Do your homework before you try to correct someone else.

Can anyone bake a cake shaped like a hug for poor Jen? As a Florida born native I just cringed with every "enlightening" yet unresearched reply about the big silver ball. I guess it could have been worse, it could have been a Captain EO cake, with everyone telling you NOOO! THAT'S MJ!

3. Even though my comment showed up as around the 25th, when I went on there were zero comments made.

::epic facepalm::

As someone who uses Photoshop every day as part of my job, let me just explain to you ... very slowly ... that it takes less than five minutes with the program to learn that there's this nifty little tool called the Clone Stamp that would not only be easier to use than cutting out and enlarging/moving a circle, but would also produce results so believable that you'd be tempted to call the "wreckmaker" up yourself and tell her what for.

I have faith in him that, had he wanted you to believe these were actual wrecks while photoshopping them, he could have made them at least mostly convincing.

He didn't.

oh, goodness. I am very discouraged by stupid people. I love the "irthday" joke and the photoshopping, but some of these comments are killing me....

1)the one for the one year old is a phony.. looks like they photoshop/cut n pasted the upper righthand corner of the cake over the B in birthday. Jen and john, you guys need to screen better, or your site will lose it's cred.

2)That second cake looks digitally edited to remove the "B"

john-- I am sorry your humor was lost on people. isn't it rough to be called out by people who are wrong(jen agrees, i know)? Funny that they only noticed the "problem" with one cake. sheesh!

Daddy said...

The Tori Beth cake... that is a bad case of PhotoChopping.

Only because I do a lot of this for side work, I noticed that the candle that sits where the 'B' should be is actually a clone stamp of the red candle in the upper right corner (Look hoe the counter is in the middle of the cake in a nice perfect semi circle)

Not to say it isn't still a wreck, but the misspelling is more photo editing than mistake I think.
