Ch...Ch...Ch...Changes
Saturday, January 2, 2010
For the past 16 months or so, Jen has made it her goal in life to post here every single day. And for the most part, she's succeeded.
On vacation? The post goes up.
Christmas day? The post goes up.
Husband dying in the hospital? The post goes up.
The hardest part about this is that she has to be funny, or at least try to be, with every post. This is, well, starting to take its toll. ("No, really, Sweetie, that tic is barely noticeable.") Cake Wrecks was built on funny, but when daily deadlines take precedence, the funny can suffer - and that's not good for anyone.
So starting today, we're gonna be cutting back on Saturday posts, since it's our slowest day. We'll still do our best to post every other day of the week, but if we do miss one from time to time, just know it's in the best interests of Jen's sanity, the quality of the posts, and Cake Wrecks as a whole.
Thanks for understanding, guys. Here's to much, much more facial-tic-free Wreckage and laughter.
Wreck On!

What's a Wreck?
What's a Wreck?
A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Where's the book?
We don’t have any copies of Cake Wrecks for sale here, autographed or otherwise. We decided the shipping and handling costs would be too high to make it worth your while. So instead, buy your copies locally or online and then order personalized bookplates: it’s cheaper, easier, and I think even looks a bit nicer.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 394 of 394 Newer› Newest»I misread and thought you were posting "every other day", meaning alternate days. That would be fine too, you know? Do what you need to do for yourselves!
When I started looking at the site, I only checked in every week or so, expecting that, like every other blog, postings would be sporadic. I was surprised to learn you try to post daily. Stuff that! (For you I mean, I love checking daily). If you have to miss other days too, think of it as your gift to us: you give us pee your pants laughter and it's find to have postings turn up at random intervals as a "Surpriiise".
Take care of yourself, and enjoy those Saturdays off!
It's totaly cool. We understand.
Everyone needs days off! Thanks for making my days better and easier to get through.
XOXO
Good for you! You have to take time to rest and relax, otherwise you might end up making a cake that looks like some of the ones you post! :)
At first I thought John /was/ dying in the hospital >.<
I adore this blog and will miss the Saturday posts, but Jen's health and happiness (as well as your own!) are MUCH more important than anything else. She greatly deserves at least a day off and I completely understand.
Thanks for all that you've done for us! =)
Enjoy your R&R. It's good to let the brain recharge before being exposed to yet another day's wreckage.
You make so many people's week better I don't think anyone wants to make yours worse!
Thank-you for all your hard work!
Take care.
You guys ROCK! Enjoy life!!
Oh thank God! I thought you were going to say something SERIOUS!! Cut back! Stay funny! :)
Enjoy the time off. If you guys miss more than one day.. Hey whatever! You guys have lives outside of CakeWrecks. In fact Frank over at PostSecret only posts on Sundays and he's already put out 4 (or is it 5) PostSecret Books already! We'll still love you guys no matter what!
thanks for all you do! and cheers to you for recognizing what you need to continue doing what you must love!
~M
That is wise. We love you guys anyway. :)
Good for you guys! I'll check you with post secret on sunday :)
Good, and thank you for all the hard work. Consider also doing just one cake a day: sometimes you give us enough for a whole week in just one post!
Please, oh please, enjoy your time off! Rest, recuperate, watch mindless television, point and laugh at the people on the reality shows, eat ice cream directly from the container..(oh, wait, that's what I do. Sorry....)
Seriously, I have been amazingly impressed by your talent, creativity, and fortitude. Thank you for sharing your gift with us, and please take care of yourself.
“One man's insanity is another man's genius; someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity.”
John & Jen-
Please realize that, while we may complain a little, you guys can basically do whatever you want, and not lose readers. We will still love you, and we will still read everything you write. We'll check daily for new posts regardless. :)
I just thinking the other day; "wow this blog, a post every day? that's amazing."
But of course you deserve a break Jen!
smart decision. worked for years in radio on-air....i completely understand when the funny takes its toll as you are expected to be perma-funny 24/7/365. becomes a no-can-do after a while. my best wishes to your family & thanks for the giggles to date. enjoy each other FIRST, the laughter & entertaining the rest of us comes after...WAY after. =) happy new year!
Rock 'n' Roll!
We love you and want to keep reading but NOT at the risk of facial tics, and heaven forbid- you starting to see hallucinations of your own wrecks/posts. Love ya both!!
As one who knows, doing a job you love, still makes it a job. I say go for it! Don't speak to John all day on Saturday! Heck, take every other Tuesday off from even looking at him if it helps. If it helps you rest, I won't even think about talking to him on Saturdays either! Bwahahahaaaaa!
Wish I could remember my password.. *sigh*
Terri
Yay for days off ! Many internet personalities think they have to go on an on 24/7 but they're wrong. Have a wonderful healthy 2010, John and Jen. Evren from Geneva, Switzerland.
You deserve time off! This may be the only blog I read, in fact, that doesn't take it easy in one way or another at least over the weekend. I don't want your blog to suffer, and I surely don't want to find that you're suffering, either, just because you want to keep us entertained.
It's obvious how much the quality of your site matters to you guys-- it's a big reason I keep coming back for more! Your readers have all taken note of your work ethic, and we are well aware that writing and maintenance for the site take a lot more time than it takes us to appreciate it every day. So take care of yourselves, because if you don't, you won't have the energy to deal in all that wreckage! Thanks for all you do, Jen and John!
Facial tics = bad! Six posts/week = still more than I could ever pull off! You guys are amazing.
Use the feature to schedule posts:
http://bloggerindraft.blogspot.com/2008/02/new-feature-scheduled-posts.html
This way you can write/schedule 2 posts a day for 3 1/2 days, and then have the following 3 1/2 days of the week off! You can have your cake(wrecks) and eat it too. :-)
WV:: hotdra! It's like Hot Dog! but really rad, man.
I agree with Donna A...Hooray for days off! Enjoy. This is one of my favorite sites, thanks.
Well . . . that post when you were dying in the hospital wasn't all that funny anyway.
Seriously, though - it's just incredible how consistently fall-down funny this blog is. Every. Single. Day. Congratulations on what must feel like a honkin' huge success in every way. (It sure looks like one from this side.) And it's always best to put sanity (especially family harmony) first - even when the thing it's cutting in front of is huge and honkin'.
Suzanne in Okeechobee FL
To be honest, I am astonished that you have, up until now, somehow posted every day, without fail - I would be a gibbering wreck (of the non-cakey kind) with a tic that would take out a bus queue if I had to post every day for that long.
Jen and John, you are bloomin' fab, and I look forward to your posts whatever day they come. Enjoy a bit of time off, 'cos you really deserve it!
Good for you! Everyone deserves a break! Take as much time as you need and thanks for all your witty posts!
Even God took a day off. Y'all do have a life outside of this blog, live it! The great thing about the net is it's always here - even if you're not :)
For all the enjoyment you've brought, and the times Cakewrecks has saved my sanity - take days off. It's a horrible thing when something once enjoyed becomes a drudge, and my life would be a bit poorer if there was not Cakewrecks because Jen burned out.
You guys have a well deserved break.
For those of us with lots of time to spare, there's a bunch of other "nit-picking" sites to check out:
http://www.awkwardfamilyphotos.com
http://www.engrish.com
and this one is ALWAYS fresh, with daily posts and comments - all from a source that never runs dry: eBay!
http://www.disturbingauctions.com/daily
Hope to see you there!
You know, I was thinking about this the other day. Most of the bloggers I read don't post on Saturday OR Sunday. And I expect that and deal with it. And then I thought about Sunday Sweets. Nothing goes better with "sweets" than Sunday. But if I were you, I'd write it another day and take the whole weekend off!
Thank you for all the laughs and feel free to post as much or as little as you want, but please don't stop altogether!
-Julie
Everyone deserves a day or two off. Enjoy and try to stay sane!!
Thanks for the laughs
Take any days off you need. A little less Cake Wreck is better than no wrecks at all. Bravo to you both for making people laugh in an otherwise unlaughable world. We appreciate any funnies you can give us, no matter how many days off in-between. Thanks to you both!!
good for you! i have only been blogging for a year, and i also tried to blog every day. who knew how stressful it could be to try to be funny 365 days a year! i've made the same decision and am hoping that by slightly decreasing the quantity of my blogs, the quality will be even better. enjoy your blog-free days :)
GOOD FOR YOU! The posts will be missed but we all understand needing days off. And as others have said, I'd rather see you take a day off from time to time than quit posting all together!
I'm glad that you can have a day off...like everyone said, you can't be funny EVERY day. However, just know that I'm having a wreck withdrawal right now and I will have to go bakery cruising every Saturday just trying to satisfy my wreckuriosity. Well, the pirate/Santa/elephant we saw yesterday will have to do for today.
Happy wresting!
ya I was beginning to wonder when I saw one for Christmas day AND new years!!! Take some time off every week you two - everyone else on earth does!
love ya
ashley
Enjoy your Saturdays! This site is a consistent positive in my day-to-day. You guys have both totally earned a day off a week (not that you NEEDED to earn it per say since we're talking about hilarious content provided for free!). Thanks for the hard work and for the dedication to us readers to decide to announce exactly what is going on. Most blogs would just stop posting one day a week without feeling obligated to inform the readers.
I hope you both enjoy your Saturdays to their fullest!
Sounds like a smart move! It would stress me to pieces to try to blog every day! Love the posts, love the blog, keep your sanity!!!
To quote Count Rugen from The Princess Bride, "Get some rest. If you don't have your health, you don't have anything." And you deserve at least a day off!
Th...th...thank you! It's about time for you to slow down! Love the blog, love the book, love your humor, would love to see you spend some down time being a happy and sane couple. Enjoy blog-free Saturday!
So glad to hear the two of you will be having some time to your selves!
Yeah - I don't know how you do it. Hell, I vote you start taking the entire weekend off.
well I have an idea of how hard it is to post every day - it was my new years resolution for 2009, to post every day of 2009 and it was very hard work and I didn't even need to try to be funny :)
so, much as I love to come and have a nosey and a good giggle - take as many days off as you need
greetings from snowy Scotland
Debz

You have made me laugh thru major depression, I say take all the time off you need...of course you could do a weeks worth at once and then just post them daily ;o)
Did Jen's husband die in the hospital or not??
Are you kidding! 35 times a week would still totally keep me looking daily!
As sad as I am that my daily cake wrecks addiction won't be fed with new material on Saturdays, I'm glad you've decided to take a day off. You both deserve it! And after all, there's plenty of older posts to go back through again on Saturdays!
I teach and work pretty much every day. But when summer comes, I get a couple of months off! Take your time off and enjoy it! This needs to be fun for you or it won't be worth doing!
I've seen many a blog run into the wall form the pressure of Having To Post. I rather see you post WHEN you want even if it's just once a week or once a month. Quality over quantity. Make sure you're having fun, nothing else matters.
I fully support you guys and think taking some time away when you need it is a fantastic idea!
enjoy your day off Jen (and John) I'm sure we all will survive one day without our daily fix of wrecks. I've always wondered how you did it-through Christmas, John's hospital visit and everything else. You rock-so you really deserve it!
Keep up the good work, and keep your brain intact so you can, Cheers! Patricia (from Spain)
Enjoy your day off! You totally deserve it and we would rather you stay sane (and lose the facial tic) Looking forward to my regular M-F wreckie programming (and then Sunday Sweets to cleanse the palette)
As you said, Cakewrecks started as fun . . . keep it that way! Take as many days off as you want!
I challenged myself to post daily to my blog during the month of October this year and it about killed me! I noticed that in November, I only posted nine times! December is more accurate with 15 posts . . . about every other day or so.
Keep it up . . . have fun . . . enjoy yourself.
You could also "schedule" posts if you wanted . . .
Thanks to wonderful you and your fantastic blog, this has been the best Christmas season ever in my entire life which has been over 70 Years! (I know, I'm pretty shocked by that fact too!) But I hope you can see what a difference two people can make in the world! That so many people came together and gave their hearts out is quite a feat and you certainly owe yourself some time off on a regular basis. We will always be here and hope you will be too. Nana,
wv: jokerant and rave about Cake Wreaks!
If it wasn't for you all I wouldn't have a nightly laugh. But it's only funny when you feel 100%. So don't worry, take a day or two off a week because you more than deserve it!
Creativity needs it's breaks! Thank you for the fabulous posts that make all of our mornings:) Enjoy Jen-day!
Thanks again,
Miss Little Red Hen
Good for you
Take every saturday off and breathe
what your human? shocking. go rest! ME I would of been in the bahamas sequestered in some small Kay. Vodka not far from reach.
ps
love your work big time here in Tampa.
Obviously the masses all still adore and appreciate you. Your posts are worth waiting for. So kick back, enjoy, and know that we will all be here, happy for any wreckage we receive.
I agree with everyone else, that you certainly deserve a day off.
I also want to suggest that, as needed, you replay previous posts on days when you just don't have that ol' comedy goin' on.
Thanks for all you do!
Burnout is NOT a wonderful thing! If it's a choice between 3x per week and "not at all" I'll pick 3x per week!!
There is no need to update every-single-fricking-day! You've proved to the world you CAN, really!
Quality over quantity in my book all the time, any time.
ps: you're wonderful!
Everyone deserves time off, especially you two! You take so much time to give us these amazing, funny posts, and we're all thankful! ;)
Anna Marie
Hey - we get to enjoy you for free and your posts are wonderful! Your posts have had me in tears with laughter, and that doesn't happen often! Enjoy yourself on your much deserved day off.
Laura from Bradford, Ontario
That's fine with me. Better to have less updates than none at all, right?
Oh my gosh, no explanation needed. Thank you for making me laugh... and laugh and laugh - honestly, found this blog at a bad time in my life, and this was one of the things that helped. Take care of yourself first, and thank you so much!
Do what you guys need to do :) Happy New Year and I look forward to more wrecks!
And to be fair, when she posted when you were in the hospital, she did talk about you and seem worried :)
You have my heartfelt support. I admire you for having your priorities in order. Loved meeting you in Boston (aka Framingham) this fall. This is a great decision and you won't be sorry for putting your sanity, health, and marriage before a 7 day a week blog. Go, Jen and John!
I don't need a post every day and surely have more fun reading those that are fun to write.
A Happy New Year and best wishes from Germany:)
definitely take some time off! you deserve it for having to look at all those hideous cakes haunting your inbox! be lazy, and don't even think about any CCCs!
Good for you! Well, her....both of you, actually. Anyway, ENJOY!!
Michelle
Blogging should be fun for everyone. When it starts stressing you out, it's time to take a step back. We'll all be here, day off or not! Cake Wrecks rocks.
Sounds completely reasonable to take a day off per week, or more!
Take care of yourself.
No problem here with missing Saturday posts! I am a baker and I usually get one day off a week. When things get crazy and I don't get that ONE day off... I go crazy!
Thanks for all the laughs you and John give us, and enjoy your Saturdays!!!
I've never understood how you managed to post every single day. It's downright heroic. Be good to yourselves in 2010!
Yeah, man, thats the spirit. You guys are great, and I'd rather have one great post whenever you feel up for it than a half- arsed attempt to please the crowds. Cheers for being honest!
*hugs* Everyone needs a (or two) to rest...We love up here in BEAUTIFUL Vancouver! Stay sane and funny, you 2 rock!
You know, I had to cut weekends out altogether. It is a necessary thing. We don't want you to burn out!
We'll see you when we see you. In the meantime, we'll just jam your e-mail box full of more "professionally" done cakes that we find while we have all of that free time now!
:)
Good for you! Take some down time, you've earned it.
Jen (& John, hubby of Jen),
Blessings to you! You absolutely deserve a break or two... or twenty-two!
And all you great Wrecktator posters - great ideas! I love them all, especially:
--> On Saturdays we can read old posts for plenty of good laughs! We've all laughed at emails we've received more than once that are good, & Jen's writing is WAY good enough for numerous giggles and guffaws!(see the right side of the page for good ideas)
--> Jen could choose a favorite "oldie but goodie" to post on days she needs a break. We all love to watch reruns on TV to relive those wonderful moments over again!
--> Guest bloggers! You had someone else way early on, and John has done a few, so why not others, like some of those devoted daily commenters even?
--> And Kimberly Chapman: I'm loving your idea maybe the best - take the last day in Feb. to come to Austin! Or... I guess other places, too... for your own vacations. Hee hee!
Jen & John, it's obvious since I'm like the billionth poster today, that you are well loved. Please do take a break, as much time as you need but *GASP* please just don't stop altogether. You'd cause thousands, if not millions the world over to riot in the streets, and who would be there to keep wreckiness at bay? Oh the horrors!! *sucks thumb*
Sharon in Austin
I'm sorry to hear it's affecting her like this! Enjoy your days off! Don't look at any cakes whatsoever!
I completely applaud your decision to do the healthy thing. And though I love each and every post, maybe some suspense through the weekend is a good thing??
Anyway, keep up the good work and take care of each other.
YES you guys deserve time off!!!! Especially when in the hospital.
I for one will in fact survive if there are no new cakes for a couple of days here and there. Its not the end of the world lol.
((((HUGS)))) and Love for Jen, John and all those who help make this site possible.
I enjoy posts - but do understand the sanity angle (I haven't posted on my blog in weeks for the same reason)
by the way I got your book for Christmas and both my hubby and I busted up laughing over every one - It's become my new coffee-table book!
Not only should you take Saturdays off but you should take the advice of nearly every comic strip writer in syndication and stack your posts. Take one or two days a week to get them all ready for the next three weeks. Then all you have to do is choose one, and post. All the coding is done.
Having been in this business for 15 years, I don't know any other cartoonist in syndication that does it any other way. And what is a blog really, but syndication.
Good luck!
Do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And sleep late, and don't even think! about looking for wrecks.
Way to take time out Jen and John! Facial tics and sanity aside - we love what you are doing...and will survive while we wait for your mentally healthy (or at least rested) return.
Wreck On!
Tamara - Phoenix AZ
It's okay, Jen! We loves you. You're amazing. Take a break. You deserve it.
For a second I thought John was dying... my bad. Enjoy your day off guys!
Take care of yourself, Jen <3
Go for it! Three cheers for taking time off! :) Looking forward to funny-ness and lots of sugary icing in the new year.
Anybody who would take issue with that is either just plain mean, or needs to get a hobby other than being a cyber-troll.
Greetings J & J -
Please take all the time off you need to attend to restoring yourself. Speaking from writing a weekly column for first print media and then the internet (6 or so years of time), I stopped because the commitment almost destroyed my love of the topic.
Take care of yourself. Blessings always in 2010.
Of course you should get time away from work! I'm a HR manager and while your posts are a highlight of every day for me, I'm a huge proponent of getting away from your job regularly -- no matter how much you love it. Thanks for all your efforts at keeping us entertained!
I've developed a list of about 30 feeds to follow every day. I wouldn't mind if you posted a little less (it sounds like a bad thing, but it's really not). Besides, that means more for the other days of the week!
Take a break :)
Good for you. Six days of hilarious is enough for anyone. Relax!
Took time to scroll through each and every comment just to be sure nobody was being a d*** about this announcement. I didn't see any negativity and I sincerely hope that's because there wasn't any and not because you had to moderate some idiots here and there. I mean, honestly, who doesn't agree: taking a day off is a good idea. We all need that.
Love the blog! Rock on!
Your blog has brightened my day and made me feel better when I was stressed and feeling overwhelmed, but it shouldn't take such a toll on you! To be honest, I'd be happy with one post a week (they're always so good). Take care, Jen, get some rest, and I hope you feel easier from now on. Thanks for everything you do for us!
You know, it's really funny. Just as my computer was loading this site, I was thinking, "Holy crap. How in the world do they manage to post something EVERY DAY? Let alone hilarious and entertaining posts! They must have either a crap load of time on their hands, or be staying up till 3 am to get everything done. They have to take a break SOMETIME!"
Well, lo and behold. Take a WELL DESERVED break. You have provided me with so many laughs, you deserve some you-time, both Jen and John.
You have brought tears of laughter to my eyes (AND my 12, 13 & 14 year old boys, too!!) SO many times! We cherish each and every post. If you even just posted once a week, that would be SO appreciated! (Think of PostSecret.com! It's only Sunday...) Anyway, just wanted, like so many others here, to say how much we have loved your blog and WHENEVER you wanted to post, we'd be happy!! <3 Love from Southern California.
What?!?! No posts on Saturdays, what am I going to do?!?!? lol. Seriously, I understand not blogging everyday, heck since our computer died I rarely if ever post on mine. Take all the time you need, we cAn always look at past posts to fill our cup-cAke wreck moods... (or go to Walmart). lol. Hope all is well on your end and here's to our sanity.
Jennifer from GA
MY FIX!
I demand a refund of everything I pay to use this site.
...so there.
Personally, I think you should post twice a day, and have a streaming video on Sundays!
I estimate two weeks until you had matching, synchronized tics, an ulcer the size of Tasmania, and a straightjacket.
Rest, recoup and refresh yourselves. We, your loyal fans, demand it!!
Good on ya Jen and John. I hope one day a week is enough to keep you sassing cheerily along--if it isn't take another day too please. Honestly, feel free to rest on your laurals (or flying fondant, as the case may be.)
enjoy your day off!
have you thought about a guest post by readers once a week?
that would be soo awesome
not that we could match up to the skills of the master but im sure many of us would like to give it a try :)
No worries, I perfectly understand. And it is your blog, not all of ours. Would rather have funny than exhausted Jen:D.
Good decision! Everybody needs time off.
This way, there will be more funny left over fot the other posts!
I will keep reading and loving you blog as ever. You are both wonderfull and very funny people. Thank you for sharing the laughs!
Free the prisoners!
Less is more!
Liberate Epcot!
Vive le wreckolution!
I stand with everyone (of the posts that I read) when I say that you should take the weekends off. You deserve it! Post the classy stuff that you did on Sundays and put it on Friday. Then relax and bring the funny on Monday when everyone needs it to start the week with.
Take care and relax, we love you guys and we will still be here to see what Jen has to say!
Enjoy your facial tic free Saturdays Jen. Thank you for all the laughs during the week. You so deserve a break.
I have long been in awe of people who can post every.single.day...... And I think there must be sonmething wrong with them....
Or at the very least, I know their families are suffering.
Just know this: your readers don't necessarily read every single day either. So it's fine if I go a few days without readin CW, and then when I come back, there are only 2 or 3 to read instead of 5 or 6.
I'd rather you cut back in HALF---like only post 3 or 4 times a week---than every have to fact the prospect of NO CakeWrecks in my life!!!!
Word Verification: trifece.
(Isn't that when there are 3 or more poo-like blobs of chocolate frosting on a "sheet"cake?)
Of course you deserve a break. This blog is fabulous. Thanks for it.
Day x (England)
We love you Jen! You're wreckies will be here for you no matter what!
dear jen and hubby,
even workaholics have to take time off!
because most of us take your wrecky goodness for granted, if you were ever to stop bloging you would find an angry mob googleing your house.
so please take a rest, and subdue that adorable tick.
we would hate to have to come to desperate measures, now wont we?
(honestly i think you should take two days off, even members of the military have that much time off. tuesday or thursday would be good days. hope you feel a little less stressful)
Smart man that John!
i have 'sabbaticals' from my blog a couple of times a year and I find i write much better if i have guest posters every now and then...I applaud your self-care and I hope you feel encouraged by all of the wonderful comments! thanks for your sense of humor and the tough-love way in which you deliver us the fabulousness that is Cake Wrecks.
Definately take more time off! I think we all love the funny but not at the expense of one's health (unless one is watching MTV's Jackass...) and facial tics... no no.
I'm not sure that I've ever posted a comment but I absolutely LOVE your site you guys. The cakes are just amazing (in one form or another...) and I look forward to future (come as they may) posts.
Keep up the great and fantastic work you guys!
Take a good rest, Jen! I'll keep coming back every other day of the week. You enjoy a day off. :)
Heck, take more days off than that! Your blog won't die if you take a couple of days off a week.
It's only good for us if it's good for you...
(and hey, xkcd only posts on Mon-Wed-Fri and plenty of people are perfectly happy with that.)
It's all good. Enjoy your Saturdays off :)
well goodness knows I couldn't do it, so I certainly don't expect other people to! Take two days even... I give you permission!
I think if anyone minds you taking a day off, they're not true wreckies! And did you notice all the folks saying you should take TWO days off?! Go for it! You have the best blog out there, Jen and John! Thanks for all your hard work, all in the name of humor. and cake!
While Sundays are very Sweet; I can't wait until Monday!
No one but no one can post every day and still have a life! Since getting your posts I have remained in constant awe of the number of wrecks there are!!
Have a life & enjoy! We'll all still be here tittering when you come back.
Everyone deserves *at least* one day off a week! If God did it, I think Jen can manage! While we do love to read your funny words, we want you to enjoy writing them too. Have some fun next Saturday, that doesn't involve cakes! (it's ironic that I write that, because I spent all of yesterday making my first real cake for my son's birthday party and, while the result is not beautiful, it is certainly not a wreck, and I thought of you the whole time, thinking, "How on earth do they make such complete disasters if I can make this decent-looking?" )
Jen and John,
I want to add my support for your decision along with the other 321 previous commenters. You do a wonderful job and deserve a day that you can call your own. Like others have pointed out, taking a day of rest is so important, it is documented in the Bible. Surely, if GOD needs a day off, so should you!
Other than that, I agree with Sharon in that you should use some of the excellent suggestions made in the comments. I am willing to bet you could find some guest posters to fill in or help out. All you need to do is ask. Just be prepared for the flood of responses when you do.
As an added suggestion, what about using Friday as a "Fan Feedback" day? From reading many of the comments made on the wreckage over the months, there are some pretty funny people amongst your followers. You could just post a picture and ask your fans to provide the caption/commentary. While you would still need to select a picture and have someone (like a certain person we know in Maine) moderate the comments, it would still be a bit of a break from "providing the funny" that day. If you wanted, you could post your favorite comments under the picture like they do at thereifixedit.com (scroll down to older posts to find the favorite comment).
Also, since it is on Friday, it gives you two back-to-back days to rest. Picking a picture is something that can be done earlier in the week and "stacked" for automatic posting. Please don't give up Sunday Sweets. I love the contrast it provides. I think Friday is a better choice since folks don't need as much of a humor pickup when they know the weekend is around the corner.
Whatever you decide, know that your true fans support you 100%. We would rather have you once a week/month/year and tic-free than not at all!

You guys rock! And health/sanity/family always come first. Take all the time you need. The cakes will still be there, ready to be wrecked.
That's literally what I see when I walk by the grocery store bakery now. Freshly frosted cakes with luridly colored flowers and/or suggestively shaped balloons surrounding a blank slate of frosting, just waiting to meet its full wrecky potential as soon as the order comes in: Good Luck Susan and underneath that We Will Miss You.
Jen - you ROCK, and deserve time off. I always appreciate your posts and will be happy if you post once per week, or as many days as you feel comfortable with. Thank you so very much for your humor and your dedication.
sorry. i was out junking/antiquing (it's what i do and blog about for the nourishment of my soul) yesterday and didn't have the opportunity to comment about the ch ch ch changes in your posting schedule.
whew. so here i am. a day late and definitely a few dollars shorter.
i tried to read everyone's comments so i wouldn't repeat anything ... but after about 50 or so, i gave up.
what more can be said? simply this: i support your decision also. not that you need my affirmation ('cause i know you're smart enough to do what's best for you) ... but you have it anyways.
all best,
terry lee
Jen Please take off all the time you need. I love your post, humor and how you embrace your geekness. And John keep up th great work of taking care of her. Kathy in KY
Every body needs a Sabbath! Diane
One of my weekday blog visits is to "A Plate a Day", which doesn't post on weekends. I love your site, and visit it each Sunday, checking out the whole week. Thanks for belly laughs - you provide so much more than enough that one day off is quite fair. (Besides, we have to rest those tummy muscles too.)
You know, this is really a great site, and I love coming here for the photos, but it is your commentary that makes it coffee-snort inducing.
I have often wondered why you never seem to take any time off, and I had thought that you had a back log of posts that you could throw on here any time.
I couldn't agree more that you should take a day off, but I have a suggestion that might seem...I don't know, crazy?
I think you should take the whole weekend off, and you could do the sweets on Friday. Cause you know, what is sweeter than a Friday?
If people want to read your posts every day, then they should buy the Cake Wrecks book and read it while you take your much needed and well deserved weekend...just like everyone else.
Aww, we'll miss you on Saturdays but we're really spoiled that you post so much new material so faithfully. So enjoy your tiny extra free time and here's to a happy and healthy 2010!
I come to CakeWrecks every day, and do not mind if there are no new posts on any given day. I love this site, keep up the good work!
Don't stress about it! We love you.
That's the killer thing about schedules. I'm actually surprised you sustained it so long - so many cakes, so many wrecks: I guess there was plenty of material. Anyway, personally I don't care if you just post once a week so one day off a week seems generous to me. Thanks for bringing the giggles and I look forward to me. Whatever the moaners say (and you will get some), remember there are a lot of people out here who love you.
Good call. Actually you should take every Saturday off imho. Twice the days off for twice the sanity. :)
This will give me a day or two a week to clean my computer screen and keyboard from my daily "spit takes"!! I'm sure you all know what I mean! Keep up the great work...
Kathy
Yay! Enjoy your Sabbaths, Jen. You and John both need and deserve them. Bless you both!
Way to go! I am all for saving Jen's sanity! I much rather have fewer posts that are high caliber than more posts that are watered down (with either your tears or Jen's).
Take a break!!! Go have some fun!! We'll be here when you get back!
Chadd in St Pete
Good for you taking time for YOURSELVES! :) I love reading all your posts, and have subsequently shared the wreckage with many friends. By all means - enjoy the time off! I look forward to more laughs!
-D
Out of curiosity, how much time does it take to create a post, including research, wading through our billions of submissions, and comments? You guys are awesome to do it all! I was actually really surprised that you posted every day when I first started reading, and I definitely think you deserve a day to yourselves.
We need Jen to stay sane. So enjoy your Saturdays off and have some fun!
Hell, take Wednesdays, too. No one buys anything on Wednesdays. You gus are great! How about periodic classic posts?
Awww Jen! :( I'd rather read you just a couple of days each week than have you get burn out and need to quit altogether. Take a break whenever you need it!
Thank you for taking good care of yourselves!
know when to say when! Friends don't let friends tic and wreck! Seriously...good for you to take care of yourself. You both certainly deserve some down time.
Thanks for keeping us in frosting!
Good for you!
And thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do!
I doubt anyone's going to riot over losing one day, and if it means that CW stays funny, then I, for one, won't have a problem with it all.
Thanks for staying sane!
I think it'll be good for the blog to post because you WANT to post, and not because you should. It'll stay fresher that way (and so will you - especially with extra time for extra showers).
Thanks you two!
You deserve a break, Jen! I'd come here even if you only posted once a week. <3 We all enjoy your posts. Thanks for all your hard work!
Enjoy your Sabbath rest. <3
Take a day off... have a party... sleep.... rest. Absolutely... and we'll be here... waiting... no presure, of course :).
Rest.
Rose
For goodness' sake take a break! Your site is fantastic but not worth your peace of mind.
You are absolutely the best blogger on the entire web! The public demands cakewrecks, but I'd never begrudge you the need to do whatever is necessary for your wellbeing. I really am happy for you in taking this step for yourself and your family.
ME
Take your time, we'll be here. :)
You shouldn't force yourselves to submit everyday, make it more fun for you and not seem like a chore.
Can't force the funny.
Take all the time you want/need!
No more facial tics and twitches...
You guys deliver the goods with every post! I've gotten so many laughs from both of you. You've earned as many days off during the week as you need.
Love you both! Love your show!
:-P
You definitely deserve a day off!!
I don't usually read Saturday's post until I get back to work on Monday, anyway. : )
I hear ya', sister. As a writer (and little fish in this big pond), trying to keep attractive, clever content on one's site can wear you down. I recommend a month spent with the latest Legend of Zelda game on your Nintendo DS. You'll need a chiropractor after staring at that little screen all day, but it'll be worth it. And watch out, the little booger loves to leap into the lakes of fire.
No time to read all 370 other posts, but since I historically have laughed so much I've done things like spit food at the monitor, had a soda-nose incident (I think this had to do with the Lenin cake), etc., I'm all for quality over quanity. Release the tics back to the woods where they belong! :-D
Jen -
I love reading Cake Wrecks no matter what, and with how much you've done in the last year, you deserve to take a break when you need to. Enjoy yourself and I look forward to future posts!
My boyfriend and I carpool to work everyday and the first thing said at the beginning of the car ride home is often "Did you see CakeWrecks today?!?". So take (an occasional) Sunday off too!

You have what, a million readers? And yet each one of us feels like we're in a tiny little circle of coolness/geekiness when we read your posts. You guys work so hard to entertain us and make us feel special and listened to, you deserve a day off!
EVERYONE should have a day off!!! :D Don't know how you've done it, honestly - kept the funny, and posted every day? Color me impressed - I'm SUCH a slacker blogger....
Hey Jen & John - I agree that everyone needs some time off. You deserve it!! But, as my grandma used to say, many hand make light work. So why not spread the "work" around?
I had a thought on how to give Jen a break while keeping the wreckage going non-stop plus adding a new twist to your marvelous blog. Maybe you could post a picture of a particularly troublesome wreck on Saturdays and then let your loyal readers/fans take a shot at being 'Jen-for-a-day.' While Jen's snarky shoes would be tough to fill, her devoted fans would surely have fun trying.
At any rate, we are all very appreciative of your hard work and dedication to serving us up with our daily dose of hardy-har-har. Wreck on!
Really if I was Jen I would have thrown my computer out the window, torn my hair out, and try to curse all my followers.
I give that a thumbs up. Thanks for the great work, guys!
I would've done this a long, long time ago. You guys are over achievers, but we love you. Cutting back is better than cutting off.
Good for you! Every person needs a day off.
I am new to your blog by a couple of months, and I found it at a time when I needed a great distraction that could make me laugh. I have loved every post since and have often wondered how you do it every day. I'm lucky if I get my kids fed every day!!! There is no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks that I could make a post to my blog that often!
Take a break... take a few breaks...stay fresh and don't worry, your fans will remain true... and we definitely don't want Keyboard Cat to ever play you off!!!
How dare you not schedule your lives around my desires! Frankly, I'm insulted, and I demand an apology.
Enjoy the freedom! :)
Perfectly understandable! You do an awesome job Jen!and do not worry about losing any of your followers and fans of this wonderful blog... We'll always be here! You took the right decision! Enjoy your days and your wonderful hubby!
Love your posts SO much... but take as much time as you need! Even if you end up posting every other day, that's totally ok. Everyone needs a mental health day every now and then!
Jen and John,
By all means take a day off....but have you considered inviting a regular poster on as a "guest wrecker" on every Saturday? There are some great regular posters who would do a wonderful job and they could even submit it a couple of weeks in advance?
Just a thought. YOu do deserve a day off though. Enjoy your Saturday!
Thanks for letting us know! Enjoy your day off!
You definitely deserve time off!
But do you do the "schedule" function on the blog where you can put a lot of posts in and schedule them to come out at a certain time every day? I do this when I'm on vacation so no one knows I'm on vacation (oh yeah, I'm that cool)
"john (the hubby of Jen)"
You're dying in the hospital? What cakes were brought?
And some web publishing software allows a publishing date to be defined. If this is available for your site, it would let you create several postings when the muse hits you. Or if you take the path of "Archive diving on weekends", you can browse the archives anytime and schedule copies of items to appear then.
Thank you for this website and all your hard working in making us laugh everyday. My 13 yr. old DD and I have bonded over it, we laugh togeather so much that my DH can tell when we are checking out the site. In fact my DD gave your book to all her friends for Christmas. Enjoy your day off and know we very much appreciate the laughter you bring to our home.
I always wondered how you can stay so funny in EVERY post! Take more than one day off! You two are awesome.
Oh, please, please take days off. I love reading your work, Jen, but the wrecky goodness is not worth your sanity nor your health. :D I'll still check back faithfully as always!
...dying?
Personally, I've never understood how Jen has ever managed to post EVERY SINGLE DAY. It's extraordinary. I certainly couldn't keep it up. No one could, unless they were some sort of super-woman.
Wait a minute... Jen, that's your secret, isn't it?
Good man. No kidding.
And as a new fan I'd say take it easy for sure. Heck, go every couple of weeks even. It'll keep everyone guessing and since I work from home anyway I have plenty of time to wait.
I hope that everything is well for you on your end.
Cheers,
Jason
