Oh What a Difference a Letter Can Bake

Friday, October 16, 2009

Sure, they're easy mistakes; anyone can make them. And really, you wouldn't think that one letter would matter all that much in the grand scheme of things, would you?

Well, until now.

I think I speak for young Matthew here when I say: if he gets birthday racks, his day will most definitely rock.

Dude, even if this cake made sense, it wouldn't make sense.

Wait. You mean you didn't intend to introduce your man to the exclamation point?

Alright, listen up, "A": It's just a jump to the left...
And "R", now you step to the rii-iii-iiight.

Teasers for the Coming Seasons

Thursday, October 15, 2009

There's nothing like the holiday season to put bakers in "the mood" - uh, to decorate cakes, of course. ;)

Why, last year we had so much fabulous Wreckage submitted from October through January that I couldn't get them posted fast enough! So here's a little sneak peek at what Wreckerators may have in store for you the next few months.

Halloween has its "monsters":

Gee, Frankenstein certainly looks hard up.

Thanksgiving has its "turkeys":

Outlines: making the vaguely suggestive so much more specifically nutty.

And "Winter" has...er...these things:

"Bat those baby blues at me all you want: I will NOT turn the photo around!"

Jill P., Anony M., & Barbara R., I would salute you, but these Wrecks beat me to it.

Erring on the Side of Caution...Is Still Erring

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

I admit it: this may partially be my fault.

[wicked grin]

See, Wreckerators now have the following dilemma:

1. Actual cake "decorating" could land them here on Cake Wrecks, but

2. they still have to put something on their cakes, so...

3.

Bada bing, bada boom.

"Yes sir, there's NO WAY this groom's cake will end up on Cake Wrecks now. Hah! Take THAT, Jen!"

Ah, thank goodness for technology. Who needs airbrushes, poo swirls, and plastic flotsam now?

FYI, Wreckerators: spell check is not missing-word check.

This bakery is covering all the bases:

Mmm. Papery.

Just don't try this at home, folks. Remember, these people are what we call "professionals."

"Is it edible? Well, sure, I suppose... Uh, do you need extra fiber?"

Do These Drumsticks Taste Funny to You?

Monday, October 12, 2009

Steph A., I'm pretty sure that this is the stuff nightmares are made of. Tasty, tasty nightmares.

Sunday Sweets: Steampunk

Sunday, October 11, 2009

If you don't know what Steampunk is, I highly recommend you do some web surfing to find out. Just make sure you have several hours to spare; I guarantee you'll find some aspect of this style to fall in love with.

Anyway, this past week the Great White Snark beat me to the clockwork punch by posting a gorgeous Steampunk cake. So in retribution (why yes, I am that petty) I shall now trump his post by featuring several gorgeous steampunk cakes. Hah! Take that, Snarky-boy!

First, a sweetly feminine Steampunk butterfly:

Next, here's one inspired by a Penny Arcade game:

I love the rich simplicity of this one:

Check out the sweet detailing:

It's hard to believe this next one is actually cake:

A consumable copper cake cephalopod. Excellent.

How about some Steampunk wedding cakes?

(Found on this Flickr stream, and made by The Cakery.)

Check out those gears!

Here's a spectacular groom's cake:

One more view - just 'cuz it's so darn cool:
