(Or maybe we threw in a few non-cakes just to trick you. Think you're up to the challenge of spotting a fake?)
Is this a real guitar? Or is it just a rockin' good cake?
Can't tell? Well, don't fret. We won't string you along for long.
And speaking of music, is this a real drum, or one of our evil snares?
The wear on that drum head is unbeatable!
Assuming it's actually cake, of course. Or is it? Hmm?
Here's a tough one: which of these shoes is edible?
Or are we just messing with you?
Here's a hint:
Here's a tough one: which of these shoes is edible?

Here's a hint:
All of this trickery is making me hungry. How about some real, delicious, spicy buffalo wings*?
*May or may not actually be real, delicious, spicy or buffalo.
Then you could wash those wings down with a tall pint of Jameson's Irish Whiskey:
You're supposed to drink whiskey by the pint, right?
If you think you've already spotted the fakes, take a look at this Louis Vuitton luggage:
Better buckle down and really study this photo before we carry on.
Has a basketball ever made you hungry?

And if so, does that make you a real basket case?
Or maybe a head case?
Submitted by Lirpa F., made by The Sweetest Thing
Or maybe a head case?

I heard it through the grapevine that this fancy "wine" and "cheese" cake could be an impostor!
Or am I "lying"?
There's no way these crayons are cake... right?
Color me stumped.
How about this gumball machine? Real or cake?

I hate to burst your bubble, but we're not giving the answer just yet.
Check out this lo-mein attraction - do you think it's sweet, or savory?
Either way, those fortune cookies look delicious ...in bed.
This stack of pancakes makes me want to have dessert for breakfast.
Would that be called Dreakfast? Bressert? Brinnersertunch?
So, think you've got us figured out? Then this next cake will have your whiskers in a twist!
Such form! Such skill! Such artful mastery! Can you believe that this isn't a REAL CAT? Absolutely mind-blowing.
(Okay, so maybe it's not really a cat cake. Maybe it's more like a kitten salad.)
So, who spotted the fakes? Assuming there were any?

Have a Sweet to nominate? Then send it to Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com.
There is no way that NC helmet is a cake.
ReplyDeleteThe back shoe is the actual shoe, i think, based on the stitching (and lack thereof on the front) of the border. The front is probably the edible one.
ReplyDeleteThe cat (meow), the helme and the drumsticks (not the drum) are not cake?
I think?
i think the football helmet and well, the kitten... are not cakes
ReplyDeleteI vote cat, helmet, and drum as being fake. The rest could be real...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sha--the only non-edibles are the drumsticks, rear shoe, helmet and kitten. (Really, please don't eat the kitten!!)
ReplyDeleteThat helmet is not cake-it's too shiny. The cakes are amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sha: only the drumsticks, rear shoes, helmet and kitten are non-edible. (Really, please don't eat the kitten!!)
ReplyDeleteI agree. The football helmet is real (as is the cat).
ReplyDeleteThe helmet can't be cake. No way. I also think the cat is a real cat, not cake. Back shoe is real shoe, front one is edible.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet and the cat aren't cakes.
ReplyDeletethe cat and the helmet are not cake, although I'd still eat the cat (KIDDING!!!)
ReplyDeleteI refuse to believe that helmet is a cake unless I see a photo of it sliced!
ReplyDeleteAnd why does that cake shoe not have a heel?
My votes are on the cat and the helmet.
ReplyDeleteI hope the kitten is not a cake...who'd want to eat a kitty :( I agree with the others on the helmet, and the front shoe is cake.
ReplyDeleteVotes here for cat, helmet, back shoe (front shoe doesn't have a heel!), and drumsticks.
ReplyDeleteThe NC helmet, cake, and green shoe on top are fake. The back shoe may be fake as well. My 2 cents. Beautiful cakes!
ReplyDeleteI believe the crayons, the gumball machine, the helmet, the high heels, and the drumsticks(at least) are not cake.
ReplyDeleteThe kitten is cake however. I'll eat that kitten.
I went through the entire post, screaming, "CAKE!" until Huz (in the other room and unaware of what I was looking at) said, "Oh, my god, honey. Do you want me to get you a Twinkie?"
ReplyDeletethat helmet is NOT cake. i *may* have clicked on the link, and found it went to flickr.
ReplyDeleteoh also the cat :)
ReplyDeleteI'd say the helmet, kitty, and the rear shoe are the only ones that are not cake. The hot wings almost had me fooled, until I saw the lettuce underneath!
ReplyDelete@ Susannah MB - the pack of crayons is cake/fondant. I saw the episode of Ace of Cakes where they made this cake. :)
ReplyDeleteThe front shoe is the one featured in the shoe photo, and it has an insole; it's the back one that's fake.
ReplyDeleteAs for the crayons, if that's not fondant, it's modeling clay - look at the finish on the side of the box. It's not cardboard, nor are those crayons (there's no Crayola logo on the box).
The helmet's obviously not cake (or it was made by the world's best baker). Ditto the cute kitty.
The drum's the only one I'm iffy on. Those metal bits are awfully authentic.
They're all really cake except for the helmet and the kitten (obviously). Notice that all of them are submitted by actual people. The helmet was submitted by "Lirpa F." ... an anagram of April F. April Fools!
ReplyDeleteThe helmet is not cake, obviously not the cat either (that much they said) and I think the bowl of the gumball machine is plastic but the actual body of it is cake. The drumsticks *might* be cake or bread but they are awfully well-done if so. The front shoe is the cake (its in the photo below as proof).
ReplyDeleteLots of amazing talent on display!
The football helmet...could the "submitter's" name be a hint? "Lirpa F."? Really, though, those cakes did twist my mind around backwards. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd the kitten in a salad bowl - too cute! One of yours in earlier days?
Yay for continuing April Fool's!
Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLOL at "evil snares."
Oh, and the adorable cat, rear shoe and helmet are the only non-cakes (other than the drumsticks on the drum cake), methinks!
wv - rutem
The non-cakes were trying to hide from me, but I think I managed to rutem out.
BTW, there is a blog called "Eat a Kitten," so named from the author's memorable joke, "If I want warm and fuzzy, I'll eat a kitten."
ReplyDeleteI can't take the suspense! GIVE! Which are the fakes (other than the helmet and the kitten)?
ReplyDeleteWhile I can appreciate the art in the buffalo wings cake, there's no way I could ever eat a cake that sent "wrong flavor" messages to my brain like that!
ReplyDeleteNow, the crayons I could eat!
If that Jameson bottle's cake, I wanna know how the baker got that glass-like green glow.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I want lo mein for lunch. But not in bed.
the football helmet, the drum, and the kitty salad were not cakes. The high heeled shoe on the left was not cake.
ReplyDeleteAlisa
Helmet, kitten, Jameson bottle.
ReplyDeleteHelmet, shoe in the back, and the kitten salad. Those are the fakes.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe on the left, the helmet, the drum, the kitten, the guitar.
ReplyDeleteI'll say the helmet and the green bottle of wine are inedible.
ReplyDeleteAlso the kitten, but can I have a slice of it anyway please? (Gotcha LOL!)
But the latter taste like chicken when you prepare them right... so I've heard...
Assuming I haven't been fooled. I love that the crayons are for someone turning 50.
ReplyDeleteThe football helmet is definitely not a cake. Also the kitty isn't cake.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet's not edible media and here's why: not because it's shiny (enough skill with confectioners' glaze can do that), not because it's got such shiny silver bits (Albert Uster's silver dust which is technically inedible but made for cakes can be pretty shiny), not because it'd take phenomenal skill to cast pastillage like that to get that perfect shape (because there are people out there who could), and not even because of the anagram April Fools name as others have cited.
ReplyDeleteNo, that one is obviously fake because of the little clear rubber piece. Sorry, there isn't an edible medium that does that. Hot sugar, even isomalt, would not have that rubbery appearance. Gelatin is too yellow. There are candy products out there that come close but not close enough, especially without the equipment candy manufacturers use.
Nope, that wee little piece was my first bang-on-the-head clue.
And if I'm wrong, I need to kidnap whomever has such skill and keep them in my kitchen Misery-style until they show me how to do it!
PS Mike McCarey IS GOD. All hail!
I agree with the back shoe, helmet, and kitten not being cake. I'm not sure on the drum. Parts look like cake and parts don't.
ReplyDeleteWhile I know the chinese cake is cake, I don't think I could eat the lo mein part.
Excuse me while i go find my jaw. I think I left it on the floor somewhere around here.
ReplyDeleteI keep going 'what?.. no.. what? .. really?'
I want to see the wings cake cut.. that is just insane.
The helmet and the cat.
ReplyDeletePretty sure that the AMAZING GUITAR CAKE WANT WANT WANT is a real cake and the football helmet and the kitten are not cake, but beyond that I have no idea. Absolutely amazing post, guys!
ReplyDeleteI call the helmet, the drums, and the kitty of course as being the fakes.
ReplyDeleteThose crayons are awesome, though!
I'm with those above saying helmet, back shoe, drumsticks and, of course, kitty in a bowl (why with a moldy tomato?) are not edible (or is that subjective? Maybe if you're a goat?)
ReplyDeleteJosin- I am a little iffy on the drum, too... could be cake, but why make the top look dirty? The metal parts are very realistic. I think it's the color of the drum & the lettering that are the most "cake-like". I don't think that's an insole in the front shoe, though-- some kind of cakey-fondanty-gum-pasty thing.
I think that shoe cake is just so ugly--- blechh.
I'm also throwing in the bottle of wine (the rest of that cake is cake). Jameson bottle is not the right shape-- cake! :)
Amy@10:03-- LOL!
Lizzie & Miss Mindy-- good call! Those sneaks & their anagrams...
Now I'm hungry for chow mein. And a platter of buffalo wings.
ReplyDeleteThe kitten may not be a cake, but it is most certainly a Cutie Pie.
ReplyDeletethe crayons by charm city aka ace of cakes is real. I saw it on their site.
ReplyDeletethe helment is not cake
have no idea about the kittens, it look liks a real kitten to me
WANT kitten!
ReplyDelete(Just to cuddle, not for dessert.)
Oh, and the mere notion of a realistic-looking buffalo wing cake is making me a little nauseous. Cognitive dissonance! Cognitive dissonance!
ReplyDelete(To be fair, I'm pregnant and many things, including the mere notion of eating a kitten, make me nauseous right now.)
Helmet and shoe in the foreground are real and so is the itteh bitteh kitteh! :) Nice cakes!
ReplyDeleteThe cat HAS to be real. No way it can be cake. The others, though... cake, except maybe the helmet?
ReplyDeleteAll these cakes are amazing (except for the fake ones... still unsure about the drum.) That pancake breakfast is AMAZING!! Yay, Julie!
ReplyDeleteI think that Epcot, the carrot jockey, and the helmet are all cakes.
ReplyDeleteThe King Cake, however, is a giant deep-fried donut.
The puns today were especially (delightfully) painful!
ReplyDeleteno daisies :(
ReplyDeleteAt this stage, I'm assuming anything that looks like it's not "real" is cake. I.e., it's obvious that the basketball isn't a real basketball, thus, cake. Likewise crayons, the base, at least of the gumball machine (Less certain about the globe), etc.
ReplyDeleteThat puts me in certain that the cat is a cat. I'm in serious doubt about the drum and the wine bottle. I'm pretty sure the helmet is a helmet.
Fascinating procrastination.... I put you down now.
WV: iness, as in, "My goodness, my Gu-!"
Hm. I think the kitten, the drum and the helmet are real. I think the bottle of wine in the case is real too. I'd be happy to taste everything else though!
ReplyDeleteI think once a cake is sliced, the illusion evaporates and you can eat the iced sliver of buffalo wings, lo mein, or dog poop without flinching. The hard part is making the first cut.
ReplyDeleteI think the drum is definitely a cake. It's on a cake board. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the consensus is the helmet isn't a cake... I thought I was going crazy for a sec there...
UNC helmet - you can also see through the earhole of the helmet and see the tabletop
ReplyDeleteLV luggage - oh, the time it took to paint all of the gold emblems on that cake
Back shoe, football helmet & kitten - fakes. Everything else, edible! Well, I mean, you could eat the kitten, but that would be gross.
ReplyDeleteAfter a totally wrecky weekend (for non-cake reasons) this has been such a boost. My dream to make it onto a Sunday Sweets post has been realized!! I can die happy now. Thank you C-squared and CW!!
ReplyDeleteJulie (the pancake cake)
I think they're all cakes...they all have links to cake sites. Or maybe that's just tricakery at work.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the kittie salad. That made me squee.
actually, after clicking the link under it, I go back to my first assumption, which is that the helmet is a fake cake.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way the kitten is a cake - gross!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine that any of those cakes actually tastes good. Anyone who bakes knows what you have to do to get that level of craftsmanship (use a lot of dyes, gumpaste, rubbery fondant and other yucky stuff). They look great, but give me a messed-up looking cake with real buttercream any time!
I agree with the helmet, back shoe, drumsticks, and the kitty, and I'd like to add that the basketball is definitely real, whereas the shoes aren't.
ReplyDeleteI vote helmet as not cake
ReplyDeleteThe basketball makes me dribble.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE cats!!
ReplyDeleteSmall yet blatant hint... Each of the cakes gave credit below the photo to the cake artist/bakery who made them. In other words all of them are cakes except for the Kitten Salad.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet is not cake because 1. it's hollow. you can see the board it's sitting on through the side hole. 2. Who would a cake like that just on the counter by the phone cord and misc. other stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think that the helmet, back shoe, drumsticks, popcorn on top of the popcorn box and the wine bottle in the wine and cheese cake are all real parts.... oh and that kitty too!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! this was fun to look at after sleeping in on a Sunday morning!
Oh my gosh oh my gosh! Jen, you follow the fortune cookie "in bed" rule too! I thought we were the only ones!!!! lol great post :)
ReplyDeleteThat cat and the helmet are not cakes.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet, cat, and back shoe are for sure not real cakes.
ReplyDeleteEverything else, however, is amazing! The Jameson is perhaps my favorite - they captured the translucence of the bottle beautifully.
I look forward to your answers! I feel pretty confident about mine so I will be hecka surprised if I'm wrong about any of 'em.
The helmet is not cake, the kitten is not cake- but a tasty treat for a large dog, the back shoe is real- the front one is on the cake in the next picture, the drumsticks are not cake and the metal elements on the drum are either from a real drum and stuck on cake or the whole thing is just a drum sitting on a cake board!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post! I love the continuation of April Fools!
I agree that the drumsticks aren't cake, but I have my doubts about the actual drum as well. If it is cake, then it has some amazingly real details -- the worn center, the tape, etc.
ReplyDeleteI believe the proper term for breakfast at dinner is "brinner".
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! I believe all but the kitty are cakes. Magnificent work!
ReplyDeleteI hope the kitten is not cake, but I'm afraid it is. I do not think all that "fur" icing is cute at all.
ReplyDeleteI think the cat and helmet are the fakes.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with the NC helmet, back shoe, and kitty on this one. I was almost tempted to go with the drumsticks, but the lettuce is too porcelainey to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteAll are cake (except for some elements like guitar strings, drum sticks, and wine label) except for back shoe, helmet, and (squee) kitten.
ReplyDeleteI was showing these to my kids, and when I got down to the kitten, my daughter yelled out, "That's a picture from YouTube!" She spends most of her time looking at kitten videos on YouTube, and she recognized the picture. :)
ReplyDeleteAs others have said--helmet is not cake. Has too many things that are non-cakey. Kitten is not cake, because while someone might photo their kitten sleeping in the salad, I cannot fathom why on earth anyone would make a cake that looks like a kitten sleeping in a salad bowl. I say the drumsticks are real atop a drum cake, but I'm 60-40 on that.
ReplyDeleteAlso though, the trunk cake, I think is done by the shop that made my wedding cake 11 years ago! Woot!
The pancakes are adorable. I did not know pancakes could be adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe chicken wings have me salivating and feeling guilty about it. I wonder if I can eat them and have my greasy, savory craving sated at the same time as my cake quotient is met...
Follow the links. The shoes are all cake. The helmet and kitty however, aren't.
ReplyDeleteso when do you reveal all?
ReplyDeletehrlmet and cat are real and everything else is cake
ReplyDeleteHelmet and Kitty. Although my cat is being highly annoying right now and I just might bake it to teach it a lesson...it would definitely be a wreck if so.
ReplyDeleteMy stepfather and my mother had a gumball cake like that one at their wedding reception. I wish I still had the images of it, it was really well done.
ReplyDeleteEven if that kitten is really cake, who in the world could eat it?????? Just the thought! Like eating a baby!! Only you'd get hairballs....
ReplyDeleteI don't care if the helmet and the cat aren't cakes. They both look delicious! I enjoy the dining on Tarheel helmet and cat salad at Brinnersertunch feast every Falker Satherhood day!
ReplyDeleteKidding! I have 9 cats and love 'em all. They do have tendency to get in my salad sometimes, though.
WV: redied
I died laughing reading this post, then I read it again and redied.
There's a RIGHT way to do helmet cakes?!
ReplyDeleteKitten, glass globe with gumballs on gumball cake, shoe behind the one without a heel and the helmet- all are not cake.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence regarding the drumsticks ... but, if you can make that drum out of cake drumsticks aren't going to be a problem. Great cakes!
The first shoe is cake.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet and, presumably, the kitten, are not cake.
FILTHY LIARS THAT THEY ARE.
helmet cake = fake, fake FAKE!
ReplyDeleteHelmet and cake are not cake.... and Mike's Amazing Cakes kicks confectionery butt.
ReplyDeleteback shoe, drumsticks, bowl of gumball machine, helmet and kitty are real. the snare isn't - my husband collects them and i can tell, though it is pretty good!
ReplyDeleteThe guitar? Cake.
ReplyDeleteEvidence: wood grain is wrong.
Drums? Cake. Drumsticks: not cake.
Evidence: chrome isn't actual crhome. A drum head that worn would also be accompanied by a dented rim.
Shoes: Closest shoe is cake, furthest is real.
Evidence: stitching on furthest shoe, presence of a sole, looks like it could actually hold a foot. Also, closest shoe is present on the cake in the second image of the set.
Chicken wings: Cake... all of it, except may the celery.
Evidence: No bone visible on the wings.
Jameson bottle: Cake. Labels and cap: Not cake.
Evidence: funky shape (too wide in the middle), and reflections don't match. The two light sources visible from the bottle itself don't line up with the light sources reflected by the gold foil or the bottle cap... The foil and cap, however, do agree with each other. Wonderful fake reflection of the cloth below the bottle, though.
Trunk: Cake.
Evidence: The strapping on the side, above the handle isn't straight, despite it being stretched across the lip of the trunk. Also, the pattern may be lined up diagonally, but not horizontally... Very close, but just slightly off.
Basketball and shoes: Cake.
Evidence: I have yet to see any perfectly spherical cake. This ball is made up of at least 3, probably 4 layers of cake. The skin of the ball also doesn't reflect light like leather does. Neither do the shoes.
Helmet: The cake is a lie.
Evidence: clear plastic, thickness (or complete lack thereof) of supporting structures.
Popcorn box: Cake. Movie reel: Cake. Popcorn: can't tell; I'd expect to see the kernel husks somewhere on a small sampling of kernels, but the variety of shades, along with the shape, makes me think that however the popcorn was made, it isn't icing... Especially considering that the cake layers are very obvious in the box, and the paper saying "Happy Birthday Jeff!!" (almost exclamations of ellipses...) doesn't match with the side of the film reel...
Cheese: Cake. Bottle: Cake. Box: Cake. Knife: Cake.
Evidence: Again, the reflections aren't uniform... The wood grain is also faked... and no self respecting cheese is going to be that mushy AND that holey.
Crayons: Not crayons.
Evidence: The shape of crayons is wrong for that brand. The wrappers aren't paper. There is no waxy sheen. Since they're not real, they have to be cake.
Gumball machine: Cake. Gumballs: Not Cake. Bowl: Not Cake. Lid: Cake.
Evidence: Multiple layers, no reflections off of the plastic (although the airbrushing at the bottom of the "metal" gives a very good illusion of brushed aluminum reflecting a bright surface underneath.). The gumballs, however, all have uniform reflections, so they're actually shiny.
Noodles: cake. Take-out container: Cake. Take-out container top flaps: cardboard. Chopsticks: chopsticks. Fortune cookies: not fortune cookies. Fortunes: not paper. Handle: Not cake.
Eggs: not eggs. Bacon: not bacon. Butter: not butter. Syrup: probably syrup. Pancakes: cake.
Evidence: the way they stack. That many pancakes would have a huge bulge in the middle.
Kitty: Kitty. Give it a cheeseburger.
Helmet, Rear shoe, and obviously the kitten are not cake.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence about the drum.
That last one is a kitten no way is that cake. The helmet also looks real lol. Heck most of those have me stumped but I just know that last one is a kitten.. it has to be.
ReplyDeleteLoved those shoes!
ReplyDeleteI also play the "in bed" game!
ReplyDeleteI think the cat cannot possibly be cake. Please. Please tell me it's not. If it is it definitely shouldn't be on Sunday Sweets!
I agree about the helmet and the back shoe (the stitches...) and the drumsticks. Also..the globe on the gumball machine.
Kitten, drum, helmet and Epcot. If the wings are cake, I assume they should not be eaten because God knows how they got the little bumpy things and the glaze on those bad boys.
ReplyDeletethe helmet is real. the gumball is a cake (it's on their website). the chicken wings could be cake, but i didn't see it on her website, which is very nice btw, and i didnt see the bottle either, which has to be real because the glass is just too glassy!
ReplyDeleteand the cat is real
if you read the credit name for the helmet backwards it's april f (april fools?). so my guess for not real is the helmet and cat- everything else real.
ReplyDeleteI just assumed that if it said "by (insert name) bakery/cakes" it was real. Anyone else think of that method?
ReplyDeleteBesides the link beneath the helmet cake (thanks for the hint!), the submitter was Lirpa F. (or April F., if you read it backwards).
ReplyDeleteTaaadaaa
One extra hint.
So my final vote...back shoe, drumsticks, helmet, kitty.
Guitar, whiskey bottle, trunk and wine & cheese are (to me) obviously cake, but who can say?
ReplyDelete#2 The drum is real, although the drumsticks could be made of turkey. (Rim shot!)
#3a Shoe in the foreground is cake. Not because of the lack of stitching or the type of material used in the construction of the inner frammis, but because it is identical to one in the photo below (also why it doesn't have a heel).
#4 Real wings; the celery and lettuce are fake, and the dip is ranch buttercream. Deal with it.
#7 Cake; no texture.
#8 Real helmet. This should be posted in every bakery in the galaxy. Not that it would necessarily help, but it might.
#9 Film reel: cake. Bag: could be fondant; looks a little thick for paper. Popcorn: if it isn't real, someone went to a *lot* of trouble.
#11 Cake. You can tell, because some of the colors are off by 1/4 shade.
#12 Cake. [My theory is] The bowl is made of gelatin, but these people know how to keep it from melting all over everything.
#13 Cake. This isn't a wreck, so I am assuming the wire handle is food-safe.
#14 Cake (and things related thereto), from butter to plate. While bacon cake is an excellent idea (especially if bacon-flavored), this looks a tad pre-cooked.
#15 I think perhaps this cat would like a bit of fish. If the fish is gone later, I can assume that the cat is real, though if the fish is still there, it may simply be that the cat was not hungry.
the helmet & cat are not cakes. looking at mike's webpage of cakes, i think the drumsticks are real. he does an amazing job with his cakes! the shoe in the front is the cake and the shoe in the back is a real shoe.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the drum, the cat and the helmet.
ReplyDeletethe helmet and the cat and the show in the background are fakes... not sure about the drumsticks... and the shoe in the forground was the cake version...
ReplyDeleteno??
in any event, the details on these cakes were ridiculously awesome!
Helmet and kitten is fake!
ReplyDeleteI believe all of these are cake, except the cat, the NC helmet, and the drumsticks (the drum is cake)
ReplyDeleteOkay. I think the cat and the football helmet are real and everything else is cake.
ReplyDeleteYou sort of gave away which ones were the real cakes, by putting the baker's name right underneath! :)
ReplyDelete(Unless that's a devious double-bluff, of course.)
Those cakes were amazing! I'll be they cost a pretty penny to make though. The only two that I'd say are not cakes are the kitten and the football helmet. The pancakes I have doubts about ,too.
ReplyDeleteIt's the kitten and the helmet for sure. I think the drum is a cake.
ReplyDeleteIf that kitten is a cake, I'm STILL calling the humane society if anyone slices it.
ReplyDeleteICK!!!!!!
I agree with others... Helmet & Cat are not cake. Back shoe is real (check out the stitching) and front is cake.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Julie - this post made a rough weekend light up for me! I'm honoured to be in such good company too; Mike definitely ROCKS! and Debbie is a true cake goddess.
ReplyDeleteThe popcorn is all fondant - with the "butter" painted on. Took my daughter and I HOURS to make.
I think I can also say, to Anonymous at 2:44, from all of us bakers:
You're darn tootin' these cakes take hours, but we bust our butts to make sure they taste good too!!
So are you going to give the answer? Surely the cat is not a cake???? Don't eat the cat!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSmacking head on desk -
ReplyDeleteLIRPA - April backwards?????
I've been watching WAY too much of Star Trek - TOS. A Lirpa is "a traditional Vulcan melee weapon, consisting of a metal staff with a fan-shaped blade on one end and a club on the other."
I thought the baker was a ST:TOS fan....
WV: sufferst - my head is suffering the worstest after smaking it on the desk.
Helmet's a fake - rest is cake.
ReplyDeleteThe helmet is real, as is the kitten (but I love that the tomato on the kitten salad appears to be rotten).
ReplyDeleteIs it just me? I just don't want to eat cake that looks like shoes.
Jen, when are you telling us the answer?
ReplyDeleteHA! how funny about the lirpa thing! I didn't even notice that. however, if you click on the link, it goes to flickr, not a cake website.
ReplyDeleteI will now live in constant fear when ordering a cake with writing on it. :-p Thanks a bunch (write italized)
ReplyDeleteThe "kitten salad" reminds me of a spot they had on one of the early David Letterman shows, when it was a daytime show. They had "Handy Household Tips" and one of them was a drawing of kittens snoozing in the middle of greenery with narration "Heavily sedated pets make interesting centrepieces"... Apparently, the daytime audience "didn't get it" and there was hue and cry because callers thought it was serious...
ReplyDeleteyou kinda gave them away by putting the bakery's name underneath each cake.
ReplyDeleteOlivia
I say the cat is one of those freaky stuffed toys that "breathe." Those things are really realistic!
ReplyDeleteAll cake except helmet.
ReplyDelete...and cat. ;)
Oh, and drumsticks and shoe not in the foreground!
ReplyDelete(forgot to mention them)
the cat and the helmet.
ReplyDeleteHelmet, kitten, Jameson's.
ReplyDeleteare you ever going to tell us?
ReplyDeleteAre you going to give an answer key??
ReplyDeleteBut how could they cut into that kitty cake?! :(
ReplyDeleteNOT CAKE: Helmet, drum, background shoe, kitten
ReplyDeleteWell in a way the kitten is edible just not as cake as meat.
ReplyDeleteI think it's the cat because it has no link. Sneaky. Very sneaky.
ReplyDeleteAll of these are cakes except the kitten.
ReplyDelete(taps foot semi-patiently) Well, are you going to give us the answers, please? We obsessive-compulsives are waiting!
ReplyDeleteIt's been 2 months. Please tell us!!!
ReplyDeleteChris
@ Chris - The helmet & kitten were the only two non-cakes. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really not sure what is cake, and what is a lie. However, I DO know that the xkcd reference is not a lie.
ReplyDelete
